Camino Northern Route - Independent or Package

    Hello all,

myself and some friends are contemplating doing a section of the Northern Route of the Camino in late April (just after Easter) starting either in Irun or San Sebastian and going as far as Bilbao. I've already done a bit of research on line and identified routes, where to find out about accommodation, get maps and so on but my friend seems intent on booking a package! This feels both wrong and an utter waste of money (cheapest she could find was 600 for a week, and we'd still have to fly there, and eat).

Can anyone who has done the Camino provide me with some compelling arguments that I can use to convince her - independent is the way to go! Her major fear is that we won't be able to get accommodation along the way.

    Thank you!

I did the whole way a few years ago! It was awesome!! The Northern Route is not as packed as French Way, so don't worry if you don't see any pilgrim through a stage. :) you will not have any problem to find a place!!

I wouldn't book any package!!! Just have a look at how many km you want to do a day and spot a village along the way where you want to stay.

Check http://caminodesantiago.consumer.es/los-caminos-de-santiago/del-norte/ out this website, (sorry but in Spanish), Google translate may help :) you will find the stages and some accommodations through.

You can also use, google maps to find a village on the way if you don't like the above stages..

    cheers!
