Mini 2010

My sister brought her Mini in for a service to a big garage and was charged 400euro and was told that her car is fine. On the way home every warning light has come on. The garage is now telling her that she'll have to pay around the same figure to find out what is wrong with the car.

My question to anyone here is, Is it her responsibility? Surely the garage checked everything and gave it a clean bill of health.

    What should she do now?

    Thank you in advance.

Sounds like a rip-off potentially. Get a second opinion if they are not budging. Should be a matter of hooking up to a diagnostic kit, which certainly would not be €400.
Also, the very least the garage should do as a good-will to a customer after spending so much and the fault showing after their work is look at for her immediately, for free. That's what I'd be demanding.

Thats what she is demanding but they are saying because she didn't turn the car around the second it happened and bought it straight into them its now her issue. She phoned them on the road explaining the lights coming on and that she had a class that she couldn't be late for. I'm pushing her to get a second opinion.

I wouldn't be excepting that, it sounds like a cock and bull story. What difference would it make if she had brought it back immediately or the next day? Especially if she had phoned afterwards to tell them.
Second opinion yes, but at the same time the least they should be doing is taking a look at it for free, very poor service after taking her cash.

It could be something very simple too. Know someone recently their warning lights all came on and was just a blown bulb over the tail-light.

Very poor service from the garage indeed. Ask her to use other local mechanics with diagnostics and don't go back the the "big garage" again.
Whereabouts is it? Cork, Belfast, Waterford?

Agree but at the same time she should not have to spend her own money on a diagnostic check for faults that showed up straight after it came out of the service garage. Even if it is coincidental, thye should check to rule out any mistakes on their part, like loose connections etc.

OP I suggest you go back in with your sister if you can demand they look at it. Sounds like she may need some support. Sorry to say some still have a terrible attidude towards woman unfortunately and will try fob them off.

Its so far the plan, Go back demand them to find the problem without being out of pocket. I have the guy I use up the road willing to give the car a look over.

anyone who goes back and gives business to what are highly likely to be gangsters a second time, deserves all the get.

Ive used joe duffy bmw for mine and never been charged anything like that for diagnostics and joe dufffy is EXPENSIVE... my last go was a new coil and even that cost less. Sounds like a rip off.
