Hi I have recently taken posession of a lovely a4 b6 2.5 tdi quattro tiptronic which was a mate of mines.
The car came without a instrument cluster so I attained a code specific part and now the immobiliser light is on and need to get it started.
Also I see that the dash/cluster lights dont illuminate although radio flash mode on the full beams and cabin + brake lights do!
My query is when i get the immobiliser reset will this bring back the above functions as I have checked fuses and am baffled?
Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated biggrin.png

No the immobiliser won't stop the ignition lights from coming on.

If the only issue was with the mismatched cluster then the engine should start, run for a second or 2 and then shut off.

So sounds like there is more wrong here than just a missing cluster.

    Hi thanks for your reply.
It does start for 2 seconds and cuts but what I mean is it only illuminates the needle and engine lights like plug lights and immobiliser light. But the lcd and trip works but no back light if you know what I mean! Basically I cant turn on the outside lights but everything else works. I
I have a lad coming to clear the fault next week but before I bring and pay him I like to have thing's as right as possible.

But do you know that the cluster is fully functioning?

Do you have the original cluster belonging to the car at all, or access to it? If you don't, it's a trip to the dealer on a trailer to get the immobiliser matched.

It also sounds like there's a more serious problem somewhere in the electrical system. I'd find a good auto electrician who knows his way around CANBUS systems to have a look at it.

I do but its in another car and went through the same process as mine is about to so not sure if its of any use to me now!
I domt think il be goimg main dealer though as I feel it wouldnt make much sense considering the year and cost as they are hard lads to pay 😜.

Not necessarily. There are plenty of alternatives to the main dealer with these.

If you could borrow it and plug it into your car and see if you then have all ignition lights it would be a help.

Hi I acquired a bypass tool for the immobiliser and it has worked to a certain degree.
The car now starts with functioning guages but hazards remain on for 5 mins or so and then clear , light switch still not functioning??. I have asked my mate for his cluster but hes reluctant to let me remove it and to be quite honest I have my doubts it would work given the Surgery he had done on it.
I have found a man in limerick who says he will be able to sort it out from here and if so im happy as It's running sweet and changing up and down perfectly which Was a concern given that it sat for 8 months or so. "Nothings ever easy"
