Renault Megane 1.5 DCI oil light

I have a 2005 Megane 1.5 Diesel and the oil light goes out before you start the car can anyone verify that this is normal. This light is for the oil pressure and not the oil level indicator. I phoned a main dealer and I spoke with a mechanic who said this is normal. I said if the engine looses oil pressure the light will not come on but he still insisted this is normal and if I was worried they could book it in to look at it. (I think he is wrong) I have checked the switch and it works fine. Earthing the switch wire does not bring the light on or has no affect (like as if the wire is broken). Does this make sense to a modern day mechanic or an old fasioned one like myself? Im confused any help appreciated.

Does The light go off while the engine is cranking/ turning over. Or does it go out before the engine turns over at all.

It comes on for a few seconds after switching on the ignition and goes out before you crank the engine

I know where your coming from alright as most car where you turn the key the oil pressure light stays on until it's cranked a while or for a second while the engine starts just until it builds pressure. But we had a few of them dci meganes and from what I remember the oil light went out as you described. But to be sure I just looked on YouTube and if you look up cold start video for your car ie videos of people starting there cars then the oil light goes out in all cases before the engine starts. So it's nothing to worry about the car is working as it should.

Great idea Bpmull and thanks. I looked at the cold start videos and the ones I checked are all the same. However I still think that if there is a loss of oil pressure there will be no visual warning before the dreaded audible one......Looks like it might be modification time

By the looks of things that's just the way there set up the light comes on when you press the button to show the bulb works and then goes of which doesn't make sense when comparing them to other cars but that seems to be the way Renault set them up. Now considering the light comes on at the start surly it would come on if the car lost oil pressure. As if what your saying is true then the light wouldn't come on any meganes at all. Once it comes on at the start that's the main thing. It's highly unlikely the engine would loose oil pressure anyway unless the pump packed in or the oil level ran really low. I'd be confident the light would come on if the pressure dropped as your car is behaving like the other meganes. Hopefully another poster will come along who may have more knowledge but that's my logic on it.
