Talent Shows in School

    Hi everyone,

I'm in the second year of building a music department (Secondary School). The school had in the past ran a stars in your eyes competition in conjunction with an external group however for various reasons that is not happening this year.

The students are leading the change and I have a little "committee" set up but with so many different external options/set ups used in different schools I'd like to get some feedback on what other schools do in this vein.

If internally run, the students themselves want to organise the event, opening it up to more than just musicians (unlike previous years), organising judges, heats etc

External options (for this year/future) that the school have been contacted about include
    http://www.yadas.eu/
    /AllIrelandSchoolsTalentSearch
Dunboyne College Battle of the Bands
I'm not sure if we wish to use any of these, but any feedback from teachers involved in any of these, or their own internal version would be great.

I assume its a secondary school? I think internally run would be the best idea, as the school has a big say in what goes on
Openening it up to all talents gives a variety which I think people will enjoy more.

Ya thats my instinct as well. The students of course like the idea of progression to a bigger competition or external prizes though they are very good at debating pro's & cons and very money conscious!

In some of the groups above it has been extremely difficult to pin down how much that they are taking from the pot on the night, or how much it will cost the school! (This is why we moved from the old external company).
