Timing chain change on Opel Corsa 2001

    Hello everyone!

I hope someone can help me.
I am looking for an HONEST mechanic who would not charge me 500 euro to change the timing chain on my opel corsa (engine 1.2, year 2001).
So far I asked to mechanics. They came up with something around 550 euro and I simply refuse to pay that amount of money even because I know the timing belt kit cannot be charged more than 120 (and they should buy car parts at special prices too).
Anyone knows of some place where I can be charged a right price for the fitting?
    Thanks in advance!

    Alessandra

how about you try changing it yourself if you are so convinced that its a simple and cheap procedure.

Timing chain kits run from 120 to 300, depending on how many gaskets you need or if you need a new sensor, but if the engine is anything like the Astra it might be handy to have a spare set of cam pulleys as they have very easily breakable tags so if I were getting one I'd probably go for the 240 Euro package with the pulleys.

when you have her apart its a sensible move to replace the chain tensioners these are another 45 euro.

then once you have the belt replaced changing the plugs would be a good move, for 20 Euro.

so thats nearly 300 in parts, the job could take an experienced mechanic up to 2 hours, maybe more if there are any fiddly bits on the car, I've only ever done it on an Astra G so I cant speak to the corsa, but I couldnt see them being any handier to work on, and the Astra was a Fcuker to retime, I spent the bones of an hour trying to get TDC to line up with everything else.

but I'm sure you can do it for less than 250 Euro yourself.

report back how you got on.
