Monitor problems - replacement likely

I'm still using the same monitor that came with my Dell pc some ten years ago but recently it's started acting up. When I switch the power on it flickers as though it's trying and failing to switch on. If I fiddle around with the power lead at the back of the screen it eventually comes on and works fine. I've no idea what's wrong but figure after ten years it's about time I got a new monitor, especially as it's only 15 inches!

I've done a bit of Googleing and there's more to it than I thought. I'm not into gaming or picture editing and mostly just use the pc for stuff related to family tree research and the usual browsing/ email etc. Budget-wise I'm thinking maybe €150 but I don't honestly know if there's a reliable monitor for that kind of money. Size-wise I'm thinking 22". I'm also wondering are there any compatibility issues with a modern screen and an old pc.

If anyone could advise me on what to buy or more importantly what not to buy I'd be very grateful.

Here ya go. Excellent monitor for the money. Probably more than you need, but it fits the bill for what you wanted, and you could go for a TN for a bit less, but this will be much nicer for not a whole lot more.

I got a Benq 24 " from Pixmania, hooked up yesterday after my LG of many years broke.

I find the transition from LCD to LED difficult, with LED monitors being alot more brighter and "duller" but the Benq I got is outragous quality, and I mean outragous. Picking up a second one to replace my existing monitor that has no problems, that I only bought a year ago.

    Would highly recommend it

I'd suggest going 24", people generally prefer 24" to 22" and the price difference isn't that huge
