NCT Onliine Booking Chaos

The NCT on-line booking system is still in chaos.

As at the end of January, it it still not possible to log in and make a Test booking at either of the Northpoint Centres in Dublin. No dates at all are shown as available on their screen not to mention time slots. No dates beyond 9th February are shown at all on the web page.
This has been the case throughout January. You are advised instead to telephone a number where they will, within a few days, send you a text message with a date and time for an appointment - no options: just accept of reject.

This is very unsatisfactory. I want to be able to choose a day and time from a series of options on the website, as used to be the case, not just be told a specific day and time which may not suit me. No explanation is to be found on their website as to why the online booking system has broken down and when it might be restored.

Are the current operators sufficiently competent in operating the compulsory car testing system which includes motorists booking systems?

Ring, get any date, change it for a cancellation that suits you online.

Pick up the phone and remind them that they are obliged to offer a test within 28 days or the test is free. Theyll be back to you with a satisfactory date soon enough...

All the Dublin test centres are at most 30/40 mins from each other. Just choose a different centre and allow a bit of extra time.

just ring and ask them to put you on the cancellation list. I find I get a call back the next day with a date perhaps a week ahead.

There is no chaos, just call them...booking online is not the best option

There's no need - once you have any date for the centre you want a bit of patience online will always yield a suitable cancellation. It's entirely possible to get the car tested within a couple of days.

If you cannot get an available or suitable date online then ring them up and be put on a cancellation list. You will probably get a cancellation within a week or so.

....and at last they have got rid of the 1890 number and replaced it with an '01' one.
Now it's free to call if you have 'free' minutes included with your landline or mobile package.
Saves having to look up the 'say no to 1890' website.

As has already been said here, phone them, request a test within 28 days, and give them a day or two to text you back with a date....they always do, nobody on this forum has yet got a free test out of them (if they have they have kept it quiet).

They have now moved their online calendar forward to show only the last week of January as the first line. In Northpoint 1 just now there is one slot available on 12th March then none further until 26th March. In Northpoint 2 there was one slot available on 25th March and then none until APRIL. I would hardly call that satisfactory.

I thought I had conveyed in my initial posting that I knew you could phone them and that they would text back with a take-it-or-leave-it offer of a cancellation slot. I do not think it unreasonable that motorists who are legally required to get their cars tested would be able to select times to do this online and within a reasonable time period (e.g. within a week or so of requesting).

Like I said before, you need to make a booking for any date/time at the centre of your choice. You then change the booking online for a cancellation date/time that suits. You'll get the car tested within a week no problem.
