F6740 Samsung - impossible to record satellite and watch Saorview or visa versa?

I setup my HDD last night on my Samsung F6740 and recorded successfully - happy days. OK so I cannot access other Freesat channels on only one sat feed but that's not too surprising.

But then I went to watch a Saorview channel while satellite was recording - impossible.

So basically a €950 "SMART" TV with independent satellite and aerial inputs that does not allow you to record one and watch the other!!!

Seems to me like it is like having a car that tells you where to go, warms your feet, massages your back, accesses the internet but doesn't go anywhere!

Am I being unfair? Is this a hardware or firmware issue?

TV is primarily built for the UK market. There you would use either Freesat or Free view, not both. It's a software bug that they probably didn't test for.

You should contact Samsung so they are aware of this bug.

I believe you may be able to flip between feeds before the recording starts, but not during.

They should also allow you to select Freesat as the satellite source if you select Ireland as your region...

    Classic - Just to clarify.

My understanding is Freeview is the UK equiv of Saorview i.e. digital TV on UHF frequencies, i.e. if I was in the UK it would be the same situation. That's not the issue. Anyone agree?

The TV works fine (tks to some help from other boards members) in displaying Freesat and Saorview on each of the two separate inputs .

The issue is that they are not dealt with as independent inputs by the software . If in the UK I could not record Freeview (the DTV input) while watching the Freesat input or visa versa. In reality these Samsung F series tvs will only record what is being shown on the screen (the only insignificant exception being sat channels on same band).

I did contact Samsung customer service and their reply was that my interpretation is corrrect and that it is "a hardware limitation". I do not believe that. I think it's a firmware issue.

The F7000 and F8000 series TVs have dual sat and terrestrial tuners. I have recorded RTE One HD while watching RTE Two HD on one.

What it doesn't permit is changing broadcast input while a recording is happening. But it can record sat or Saorview if you are already watching the other broadcast input before the scheduled recording happens. Bit of a software bug in my opinion as opposed to a physical limitation.

    Hi all.

Seems this is a problem acknowledged by Samsung and hopefully software/firmware updates will improve it somewhat - at some imaginary point in the future... see below exchange with Samsung customer support. Credit to them for responding promptly but I'll not grant any more credit until I see it actually resolved! Fingers crossed they sort it out.

    Your question
I thought the F6470/6670 was a great TV - but only until I started trying to use it. The firmware and software is cr*p.
    1. Although it is has dual antennas, changing between them is a pain. It should be a single or two button press at most
    2. Although it has dual antennas it is not possible to record off one antenna while watching the other (unlike the F7000 where this is possible)
    3. It is not possible to store channels from both antennas on a single favourites list.
    4. the favourites list are specific to either antenna - meaning they are different depending on what antenna is selected.

DO NOT BUY this TV unless you have a separate PVR or unless Samsung update firmware to sort out these issues
The picture is outstanding. The sound is OK, but the firmware and software really let down this TV. What a shame

Thank you for contacting Samsung Customer Support.

I can understand your disappointment at the lack of features which would make this TV more user friendly in the area of the dual antenna features. We have received a lot of feedback on this issue and are constantly working to improve the software capabilities in the TV's. I suggest that you try and keep your software up to date to avail of any future improvements to the software and apologise for features that currently exist that do not meet your expectations.

If there is anything else we can help with, please let us know.

The ES6300 range has the same issues so don't hold your breath for any change.

There's defo a bug here. Here's an example that proves it's not a technical issue, but a software bug:

    - Smart Hub is set to Saorview as the channel provider.
    - Start recording a Freesat channel.
    - Changing source from Freesat to Air will not be permitted during recording.
    - However, if you press Smart Hub and select a Saorview channel – it will work, and the Freesat recording will continue.

I must record a YouTube video of it and send to Samsung!
