99 astra speedometer problem?

My clocks in my astra mk4 are working perfect other than the mileage is blank. When i bought the car 2 and a half weeks ago the mileage was completely blank but the other night when i was sitting in it its lit up but i could only see bits and pieces of the letters and is now not working again.

It's an lcd screen so shining a light on it wont show the mileage :P Does anyone know how I would fix this. I am going to look at the fuses tomorrow and if its the clocks what other year of astras clocks will fit mine. Does it have to be 99 to 99 or can i take clocks out of a 03 02 and put them in mine ? :) Any help is a great donation :)

    These do have problems. ,

There is a bulb behind the LCD display , the only problem is that the whole dash has to come out to replace this €3 bulb.

Best of luck. Took me over an hour.

It might be the screen itself but start with the bulb.
Without a working backlight you can't see the screen properly to start on that.

i got the clocks lose diseve but didnt go any further because it was dark. but what you do is you put your steering wheel to the lowest position and pull it as far back as you can. when you do that unscrew the screws holding in the speedometer surround and pull it out just leaving the clocks in place.

you will see a white clip at the top of the clocks push it up and then pull it left and it will slide to the left and then unscrew the two screws at the bottom of the clocks and there lose all you do then is push one side of the clocks down into the dash so they are facing left or right and then just pull them out and un clip the electronic thing i forget the name of it and there out :)

It could be that its not charging with the clocks out as the battery light is disconnected.

The Astra has an electric power steering pump so try reconnecting the clocks first.
