    Hi
Have been looking for a 2010/11 Crv in auto, really hard to come by. There is a petrol 2l for sale at the moment.
Would a petrol be more expensive to run over a 2.2 diesel, I do about 12000 miles a year, mainly city driving.

It will obviously do less mpg, but there's more to life -and cost of ownership- than fuel costs.
An auto crv will be a joy in comparison to a manual diesel for city driving

According to carzone.ie, the 2010 petrol auto is asking €15k, a 2010 diesel manual is asking €23k meaning a difference of €8k. Motor tax is €1200 on the petrol v €750 for the diesel. You need to work out how long it would take you at 12k miles per year to make up the difference in owning one over the other.

How much is the tax on a diesel auto

tax on a 2010 diesel auto is €1200.

tax on a KIA sportage is about €600 and the same on hyundai IX35

Mazda cx5 tax is around €290 on the 2wd auto & €390 on the AWD auto diesel

Not really. Sure the new CRV is 1.6 diesel

The missus has a 1.8 petrol automatic avensis - everyone goes " god, must be hard on fuel??" No, no it isn't. The other one is that it must be very sluggish, again, no, no it isn't. Autos can be great, if it's a good auto. IMO, Toyota make a good auto box.

If OP is looking at 2010/2011they are looking at 3rd gen. The 1.6 diesel and 2 WD only is only available since the 4th gen models launched last year. Honda focused on increasing the spec and quality of the CRV since the 3rd gen to differentiate it from the RAV 4 and equivalent. This resulted in a jump in price of the 3rd generation compared to the pre 2006/07 models and competitors. By all accounts the 3rd gen gets more favourable reviews to the newer model. Looks like Honda brought in the 1.6 diesel to fight the I can't pay more than 700 quid tax brigade.

And I'd rather a larger engine like the 2.2 i-DTEC but if you're worried about a few hundred on tax you don't sound like the type would pay the difference between a kia and the Honda.

I don't have a Kia, Its the Mazda 2.2 AWD auto i have, and i had a honda CRV before that and the mazda is a few better drive SUV.

Also think about reliability once its out of Warranty. Modern Diesels have more to go wrong than the 2.0 petrol that is well proven. You wont get 4 figure bills with the petrol, you might with the diesel.

I think the autos in the crv are all torque converters and they're very very thirsty.

I really don't like torque converter autos at all.

Your probably talking 18-23 mpg in the city.

Don't think the diesels were available in auto.

Does it have to be crv only ? Going to cost a lot to haul that lump around the city !
