This has probably been covered before but I'm not finding it on a search. What is the story with cover for cataract removal with the major health insurers. Is it fully covered or is there always going to be an excess. Does it depend on the hospital and consultant. I'm renewing health insurance at the moment and this issue is going to arise soon for the family.

It very much depends on your level of cover.

I know "Cataract surgery" carried a €2000 co payment with my 2012 policy with Aviva. When I renewed with laya in 2013 it was fully covered.

Hope not to have them out in the next 30 years anyhow!

I think the consultant / hospital does matter. eg Beacon tends to be more expensive.
