New SEPA Rules - payers have "no questions asked" right to refund direct debits

I had a quick read of the SEPA information page on Ulster Bank.

One thing that caught my attention was this...
    UlsterBank wrote:
SEPA allows payers the right to a "no questions asked" refund for authorised SEPA Direct Debit payments where it is requested within 8 weeks from the date the amount was debited from their account.

Now I've never had to cancel or try to claw back a direct debit that a company may have incorrectly deducted... but it's good to note the "no questions asked" rule is there.

Previously I thought that once you sign a direct debit that the company controls that and only they can cancel it.

Good to highlight it in consumer issues as a tool in consumer disputes about payments.

    regards,
    CD
