    Hi there,

Just wondering, if a person was granted naturalization in USA, 1932, does that mean they would have automatically got a social security number.

Trying to trace an ancestor, and I have his naturalization documents, but can't trace his death...

    Thanks

No - SSNs weren't introduced until 1935 and issued as-required so some people never actually got one. They're still issued as-required rather than automatically but the chances of someone not getting one are effectively nil.

It is still very likely that they *did* get one eventually mind.

Just to add - you can search by name on the US Social Security Death Index:
    https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1202535

If they died after 1962, there is a chance their name may be listed.

If you can't go directly to the search page, start with www.familysearch.org, then click on search, scroll down and click on United States collections; scroll down & click on United States Social Security Death Index & this will open the search page.

I'm trying to find a William (Joseph) Murphy in the US census records, however needless to say there are quite a number of results coming back. I have a SSN (098036612) for him via an Ancestry hint and was hoping to connect that back to an address. The first part of the SSN indicates that it relates to a New York resident, but I cannot establish much beyond that.
Would anyone know if it's possible to establish a fuller address from the number?
    Many thanks.

There are Reverse SSN lookup services which will issue a report (which could include an address) for about 20 dollars, but how reliable they are I don't know.
