The route for this year's Rás will be revealed tomorrow morning.

What would people like to see on it?

Personally, I think it'd be interesting if they did a short hill climb time trial over the Healy Pass like they did in 1984.

A hill climb or stage finish here: Shanrahan Hill : 5.6km @ 7%

    or

hill climb here: Mt Leinster Mast : 2.6km @ 13%

    or stage finish here : Borris > Mt Leinster Mast : 7.2km @ 9%

......probably won't happen until they build a post office at the top of those climbs though ! :pac:

Tony Campbell is the race director took over form Dermot Dignam 2 years ago but the rest of the race is run by a dedicated committee.

Very fond of Tommy, hope he does as good a job as Diggo did in my time working on the Rás

Just seeing it's Tony Campbell that makes more sense not that Tommy would do a bad job on it

Really love the look of the route especially the stage to Cahirciveen, via Coomanaspig, but to be honest it doesn't really matters where it goes, because the ras is the ras and is always a special place to be around each year.
Think i'll start packing soon. That old bag will be setting out for its 37th edition.[If only bags could talk].Have brush will travel.Cant wait.

Yep.Roadside Tavern. If memory serves me right they are more eveningish night stages there?NDD [no dinner day] most times, but sure you have to give a bit of business to a former ras director.

Hit me with your rhythm stick was one of the first memories I have from TOTP

Really sticks out, that and Blondie (realised at that stage what hormones were actually for !!)

This would be my best guess.

I grew up outside Abbeyfeale so I'd know the roads well back to Kilorglin.

Dead, rolly roads from the start until the N21 (40k). Then fast open roads to Farranfore. We did a good chunk of the Ahaneboy climb (and on to Farranfore) during the Ras last year on the Listowel stage. The climb out of Abbeyfeale is long and draggy. It was ok last year probably because the 2 climbs before that had been tough. If someone is driving it here there will be lots of wheels going.

From the top of Ahaneboy it's grand until Farranfore then back to dead roads. Ras Mumhan first stage shares a good bit of this section.

After Kilorglin, I don't really know the roads. However with the profile and the exposure to the wind, it could be pretty nasty. I think ROK ON would be familiar with these roads. I wouldn't swear to the little loop after Cahirciveen but the KOMs seem to coincide with the distance markers in the description

    Enjoy the weeks "holidays"

    Diarmuid
Never knew you were from Limerick - but surname makes sense.

    Anyhow

    You are correct.

Killorglin to Caherciveen would appear to be N71 - Ring of Kerry route.
    Rolling and exposed.
I knownthe roads around the skelligs but do not recognise the place names used by the Ras team.
My guess is leave Caherciveen on Waterville road.
    Turn right
    Turn left
    Turn right for Coomanaspic
Then right at the bottom for finish in Caherciveen.

There are a few Killorglin Cc riders occasionally here that know those roads better than I do.

Turns right at the creamery after passing through Cahirciveen for the first time. Then does a loop around St Finians Bay.Turns right up Coomanaspig. At the bottom of the descent[Portmagee]hangs a sharp right and back to the creamery where hangs a left for the finish.Did this particular loop as far back as '79 when Roche won.
And finally Roy Taylor,Karen Black and the Nevada showband were playing in the Iveragh Ballroom in Cahirciveen that night.

And bertie donoghue from Portmagee was skulling pints, singing reciting poetry and doing impersonations of all ireland finals for Roches masseur and mechanic in the Boxer arms hotel at 8 pm

Coomanaspig my bete noire! The pain of climbing, turning the final hairpin, looking up and...oh FFS:eek: My old legs are surely not meant for such hardship. Then turn at the top and the descent into Port Magee awaits, the fastest I've been on a bike!

    Strava:- http://www.strava.com/segments/5310465

    The descent:- http://www.panoramio.com/photo/98199275

I'm so tempted to take the day off so that I get a chance to see how it should be climbed.

Went over Commanaspic this weekend just gone....

My legs will never forgive me, had to unclip as my zig zag across roads to get up came foul of the gutter and a tourist car hurtling downwards..

Hey, does anyone have (or made) a digital version of the route? e.g. GPX/KML/TCX etc...
