Auto-mapping a route based on desired climbing height

Is there such a website where you can specify the amount of climbing you want to do, type this in, say 1500m, zoom in on the map to limit where you want to cycle and press go and a route will be automatically generated?

Would be a cool feature to have instead of manually mapping out the same routes or just doing the same spins which I'm prone to doing after a while.

Don't think so. Strava has a (relatively) new route feature which allows you to turn on 'popularity', which I think results in popular segments being chosen where there are other potential route options. You can also explore Strava activities using certain criteria, including I think metres climbed, so you could potentially find a specific amount of climbing in a given area at a specified distance. The only thing about that is that phone apps tend to overestimate the climbing by a factor of at least 2, so you'd want to also see what sort of device was used to generate the data. I'd usually only take data from a ride done on a cycling-specific device and not from a phone.

As Koobkam says Strava's activity search is the closest I know of, example below,

    2000m-3000m rides from Laragh

I usually plan my rides in RidewithGPS.com. With map view (top right corner of the map) set to "OSM Cycle" you can see the elevation quite nicely and plan your ride over some hills around. I find the elevation calculation quite dependable - 1083m turned out to be 1133m yesterday:

Ride with GPS is ok, but for some reason, I find it is completely useless in China (where I spend a good bit of the year). You could end up with 7-8,000 metres of elevation for a ride which would not be more than 1,500 metres. The good thing about Strava is that you can search through rides already done and filter by elevation. In a place like China, that's handy as there are issues with getting correct elevation data with some sites, so if someone has done it, you can get a more reliable indicator and also factor in what type of device was used.

Just to chip in about strava; according to it there are about half a dozen cat4 climbs within a few miles of my house, some of them with gradients of over20%.

I live in Meath, it makes Holland seem alpine

That's true, according to Strava, my biggest climb in terms of altitude gain is around 3,600 metres, on some road near Athy! How does that happen? Do people just make up ridiculous climbs? Is there any way to delete them?

Might take a day or two but the data usually gets corrected

I deleted the ride that had my 3,600m climb but it appeared again after I took the same route a couple of months ago, which would suggest that the dodgy segment has been there for a good while (more than a year anyway). I flagged it (I think), so I don;t know what happens after that. It's hardly a seriously important thing to fix, more of an annoyance, plus the curiosity as to why someone would go and make up such a ludicrous segment-like those people who like to go up climbs in their cars.

That's the one from Athy out to Castledermot? I think it's a fair segment to setup, nice drag out by Mullaghcreevin wood included, but it's fairly ovbious that there was a ghost in the machine somewhere when it was done, I have it in a spin too.

I've reported it, it'll be interesting to see how quickly it gets fixed.

That's the one. I have no issue with setting up a segment there, but how does it end up being a descent from 7,000metres in altitude? There are a few others I've seen also like this-one I can think of out near Clontarf, another around the hockey pitch at UCD. Very weird.
