    It used to be 6 months max. Could well be 3 months with some banks.

    Six months from date it was written once its not cancelled.

    will I be able to get it re issued if I go to the financial institution that wrote the cheque originally?

    Should not be a problem, once they are satisfied that it is simply out of date. They will most likely re issue it and post it out.

    Depends here if it's a draft r a cheque written by someone. If it's a draft then there is no expiry. If it was a personal cheque written for you. you need to contact the payer to redo a cheque for you.
