    Hello,

Question about clearing a uk reg car.

I'm sure it's been asked before on the forum but I would be hours finding a straight forward answer.quicker to just ask!

So, My missus(Irish) is a mature student up north. She has been in college there 2.5 yrs and resides there coming home every couple of weeks and is a non resident. It's time to change her current car and I am looking at value by importing from England and the car will be put in her name. If, in a few months there is an opportunity to sell and make a few quid(which one eye is on!) I will sell it.

    1) as a student will she fall into the category of vrt exemption if she held onto it for 6 months ?

    2) if she's not, will she have to clear it within 3 months ?

It's worth €4k in my pocket so it's worth asking!

    Thanks in advance

Students don't count for VRT exemption as they were never normally resident outside the State.

Even if you could you can't sell the car for a year if you get VRT exemption, meaning any saving will have depreciated out of the car.

30 days to clear it, and the appointment must be booked within 7 days
