    Hi folks,

I haven't been at a 6 Nations game in the "Aviva" Stadium with Croke Park being my last 6 Nations games.

Sitting in the West Upper so entrance will be from the Shelbourne Road.

What pubs/hotels would people recommend pre-match - somewhere that you can get a pint without having to queue for an age. I know they will all be busy but some less so.

Assuming getting the train into the Lansdowne Road Station also.

I presume Slatterys will be mental and the same with the Bath pub.

    Cheers

The hotel on the corner can be ok.

Everywhere is busy. Get there early if you want a seat.

yeah go early if you want a seat as everywhere will be jammed.
I'd recommend maybe Sandymount village. There are a number of good pubs 10 minutes from the stadium but that are slightly more out of the matchday crowds than others.

Ballsbridge can be a bit less mental on Lansdowne days, Crowes for me. Otherwise Baggot st and walk down , give yourself 45 mins from last pint to kick off

Have pints in town and walk to the ground stopping for one here and there on the way. Much better atmosphere. Give yourself plenty of time.

Not a wise idea if the access routes towards the ground are strictly policed; the walk.

OP, if it's literally just a pint that you want then you can get a drink inside the ground. If it's the pre match aurora that you want then walk in from St. Stephen's Green towards the ground along Baggot Street and Pembroke Road. The bars and hotels that way lay on food and music on match day. Alternatively, hop off the Dart at Pearse and walk along Grand Canal Street, it's a busy route with a few bars en route.

You could get the Dart to Grand Canal Dock station and go into the Gasworks bar (attached to Grand Canal hotel). It's not particularly nice or atmospheric but it's bigger than the other pubs and you'll be quicker getting a beer.

Always enjoy pre/post game pints in Smyths on Haddington Road.

I come up from Cork so usually stay the night here, pre and post match atmostphere is always good, and only a few minutes walk away from the ground.

    The Beggar's Bush, best value.

No pub nearby will be comfortable. I find the Beggars Bush on Haddington Road good on game days, never a long wait for service and they have a canopy over the entire area at the front of the pub so there's plenty of room.

Less than 5 minute walk from there to your entrance area.

Another personal favourite if I'm in the South Stand is the Sandymount Hotel.

Oil Cans Lower Mount St always comfortable as its a few mins either side of the stadium I find

Used to work there... Would rather not drink there.

(should probably add that there's nothing wrong with it at all, just hate the idea of drinking somewhere I used to work)

The Lansdowne Hotel is a great spot.... Lots of room with the setup that they have in their car park. Easy to get a pint and they usually have the BBQ going too. Easy enough to get a pint inside too.

The Sandymount Hotel would be the same as the Lansdowne Hotel in terms of ease of getting a pint and not massively crowded. Both close to the stadium. One of those two and you can't go wrong.

Slatterys and the Landsdowne Hotel are my usual two.

And Scruffy Murhpys just down the road under the arch can often be relatively quiet.

I met the current Mrs. L34 in the Lansdowne Hotel on a matchday. Careful now ;)

Becky Morgan's on Grand Canal St. Short walk away, won't be as jammed as the likes of The Gasworks and excellent Guinness

Landsdowne Hotel were giving out free Guinness for the New Zealand game. That new half strength stuff.
