I'm looking for a laptop with some power behind it. I'll be going to college next year. I did have a quick look at pcspecialist and CustomPc.ie to get a general idea.

Here's two laptops I was considering from Komplett.

    http://www.komplett.ie/komplett/product/zkb-02pc/80013031/acer-aspire-v3-772g-747a8g75mamm/details.aspx

    http://www.komplett.ie/komplett/product/zkb-02pc/80012017/lenovo-ideapad-y-series-y510p-00043nl/details.aspx

What is your budget? Up to €1,200. Better if I can go a bit under.

What is the main purpose of the computer?

Graphic design and video processing using Adobe CS6/Creative Cloud. Mostly Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.

I'll also be doing moderate gaming.
Elder Scrolls, Sims, and some FPS. Enough power to run current games at high settings.

A 15.6" with a 1920x1080 display would be ideal. Open to suggestions however.

Do you need a copy of Windows?
Nope, I have a copy of Windows 7 and Windows 8 already.

    Accessories
I will need a decent mouse.

Are you willing to try overclocking?
Nope, I don't see the need.

    How can you pay?
    PayPal, Credit Card.

I'll be looking to buy within 2-3 weeks.

    Thanks.

I was in the same shoes not so long ago.

I was looking for 15" laptop + longer warranty. Couldn't find anything better for this amount so decided to go with Lenovo.

Got the y510p SLI version. Bought it directly from lenovo, after all the discounts managed to get for 1120 + 3Years warranty -> should arrive this friday!

Another place worth while checking is novatech laptops.... UK site, but heard they are decent.

Nice! Let me know how it goes. :) Would the two 755's in SLI be a better option or would the single GTX 760? As far as I know with the Y510p it doesn't come with any disc drive in favour of the second GPU using the expansion bay. So hard to choose!

I'll take a look at novatech.

Y510P SLI doesn't come with Optical drive, but i wouldn't consider big loss.. You can always buy portable USB one...

Performance from SLI will come bettert compared to GTX 760.

The GeForce GT 755M SLI is similar as premium accelerators, such as the GTX 765M and GTX 770M

I would say for sure SLI is better than 760... but keep in mind you might experience microstutters....

Looks like the Y510p is the best option for the money. I have an external optical drive so that's no problem.

I've been reading some reviews though that mention that the WiFi module is crap, drops out constantly, some issues with the build and other issues concerning sound and the display (probably driver related though). Bit hesitant now.

Out of interest where did you receive a code for a discount?

Thanks for that! I'm now torn between the Y510p or the smaller 13.3 Optimus V from pcspecialist. Contemplating whether I really need the dual graphics or not. Also a smaller build would be better for me. Still comes with a GTX 765m which I assume more than meets my needs. Plus I can bring the price down to around 960 including delivery without an OS installed as well as having a cooling mat.

EDIT: I've made up my mind and I'll be going with the Optimus V.

    Here's the build:

can you let me know how you get on with the Optimus please. Looking for a new Laptop around your price range max €1,200 and am stumped. I'm not sure of the critical analysis on the Optimus.

Will do. I'll be placing the order next week and it takes 10-12 days to build and two days delivery to Ireland with the standard options, so I'll be expecting delivery between the 20th - 25th of February.
