Like the title says, has anyone ever had to get an engineer's report? If so:
    - Who counts as an engineer? My definition is someone with an engineering degree!?
    - Where do you hoot find one?
    - What kind of testing/examination did they do?
    - How much did it cost?

I am planning an engine swap and the insurance company want an engineer's report.
    Thanks,
    Paul.

I'd hate to ruin the suspense, I'm waiting for the new "Projects" section to arrive! :D

I needed one for a campervan that I imported for the insurance company.

Camper was not a classic and was a Dethleffs factory job. I just went to a guy who does DOE's and got him to do it. Cost €85 then, same as a DOE.

I went to an engineer in Montenotte Cork, can't recall their name, also a Camper

I made a car into a van a while back.
    • I went to Carraige road commercials Navan.
    • Testing mainly consisted of checking the seat belts.... Glanced at my steel floor, welding etc and said it was grand
    • It cost €100

Depending on what engine you want to swap, you could go to a dealers to verify the change if its from the same manufacturer and said model came with that engine.....

What is it for? My car turned 20 this year and i swapped to classic insurance with a new company and they asked for an engineer's report. All i could find was for commercial vehicles. so i ran the insurance company and they said a letter from my garage just confirming that there isnt any performance mods installed was ok. And it was accepted without issue

That's interesting. I'd reckon the insurance companies use engineers all the time to check cars post accident, so there must be quite a few engineers aux fait with the checks/process

It sounds like the procedure from before the NCT days, when you had to get an Engineers Report from an insurance assessor or a Main Dealer for the make of car, if your car was more than 10 years old.
