how to check which is positive and negative

    father has nis own battery charger/booster. the clamps are off it with years and he uses vice grips. I bought him two clamps the other day but now unsure which clamp is + and which is -. whats the best way to check?

    Red is positive, black is negative

    yes I know that but how do I know which is the positive and negative coming out of the charger since there is no markings or clamps.


    anyway to test it?

    Multimeter. Check voltage. If positive is connected red test lead voltage will read around 14v, if negative is connected to red test lead it will read around -14v
