Just wondering how people go about this when either buying/selling?

My philosophy is very simple. If I wish to buy your car, you will let me test-drive it as I see fit or else I walk away. You may drive my car as soon as you produce a) evidence of insurance and b) a roll of notes thick enough to choke a bull, and place it in my hand.

Ask them to bring their insurance cert showing they are covered to drive other cars.Don't give them the keys until you are sitting in the passenger seat (or back seat if the wife/husband is with them lol)

    Trust your instinct above all.

You won't sell a car without letting someone drive it,so don't follow the no cash no test drive BS you see on donedeal (no matter what the car)

I once sold a car to a guy who didn't want to test drive it, refused lol. I made him test drive it so he couldn't turn around and say X,Y and Z was wrong with it later, the car was perfect and i wanted him to witness that lol.

How would insurance work though ? Would they need to transfer insurance to be fully comp?

What would happen if you tried to sell to yourself?:P

It depends, my poilcy allows me to drive other cars fully comp uo to max cc of 3.5 and max value of €50k. The other car doesnt need to be taxed and insured, just NCT'd. Im insured with RSA.

Much the same here, but I'm recently told that the engine size limit is about that of my main car, which is 3.0l. Is that the way with you? A lot of these have a blanket limit of 2.5l.

Ah yes, that mythical beast, as rare in Ireland as rocking horse poo and hen's teeth!
I just absolutely detest the way that anything over 2 liters and 4 cylinders is seen as some kind of hypercar in Ireland, ah shure, we wouldn't know about dem Ferraaaries at all now, so we wouldn't! (as quoted from the insurance handbook)
