Just to get some idea of the variations from manufaturers figures brought up here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057133675

Post your car, mileage, type of use.

Manufacturers figures - Your combined (properly calculated and not what your trip computer tells you).

    Percentage of claimed figure

    132 Astra GTC 2.0CDTi 165
    21,500km on it.
    50-40-10 National Road-Motorway-City driving

Manufacturers combined claim is 58mpg, my average is 46mpg (best 48, worst 39) so that equates to about 79% of claimed combined.

    02 BMW E46 M3 Convertible
    104,000 miles
    30-30-40 (National Road-Motorway-City)

Combined MPG (Auto) - 20 mpg

Actual average MPG - 18mpg (90% of claimed MPG).

If I hit the national roads more often the MPG can go up to 25-29mpg, if it's all city it can be as low as 12-14mpg

11 VW Golf VI 1.6 TDI
    115,000kms
    (70-20-10) National-Motorway-City

Combined Average from my Fuelly account = 55.9 mpg (best fill was 65.4 mpg)

    Manufacturer Claimed Average: 61.5 mpg

Equates to 91% of claimed figure.

This is very similar to claimed mileage from other users on honestjohn:

    1999 Jaguar S-Type 3.0
    142,000 miles.

    Manufacturer claimed: 27mpg combined.

    Actual: 23.3mpg, 86% of manufacturer's claim.

From what I can gather, the claimed MPG for my e46 320i was a shade under 34.9. According to the trip computer, I'm averaging 32.4, which is mostly motorway driving. Not too far off, though. If I kept rigidly to the speed limit on the motorway, I'd be over 34, I'm pretty sure.

    2008 BMW 520d LCi Auto

    Claimed combined - 5.6 L/100km - 50.4MPG

    Actual economy - 6.0L/100km - 47.1MPG

    93% actual to manufacturer figures

    163,000km and counting

    75-16-9 Motorway/National Road / City (ish) driving

Have exceeded manufacturer combined figures over a few days/weeks in various cars over the years. Mainly due to the 75% of my journey being 50:50 M50/M1 in more or less rush hour, so fairly constant speeds up to a max of 90-100. Traffic just doesn't allow for higher speed, so I have seen some fairly impressive MPG figures on small engine diesels.

    Claimed combined: 57mpg (from Honestjohn)

    74%
    (Though perhaps I should use Manufacturer's Extra-Urban figure of 67mpg giving 63%)

    2007 Renault Scenic 1.4L petrol, 150,000km.

    Manufacturer claimed; Urban - 10L/100km; Combined 7.2L/100km

Actual; 11.5L/100km. So 24.5mpg (85% claimed urban, 64% claimed combined)

Been using Fuelly.com for the last while to check mine out.

The last five full tanks have all returned 29mpg-31mpg for mixed driving.

1997 Mitsubishi FTO GPvR. Delighted with that tbh.

I suppose the current daily hack figures....

    1999 BMW 520i

    Manufacturers figures
    Urban: (I can't remember :o)
    Extra urban: 36mpg
    Combined: 31mpg

Actual: depends on situation. Normal weekday morning, mix of country roads, national roads and rush hour city traffic equates to roughly 30mpg. Popping into the town and back 27mpg. Driving up the M1 bang on the 120kmh the whole way 33mpg.

    Worst was 20mpg

04 Passat 1.9 TDi (red i) 6.15L/100km (46 mpg) 33:33:33 for motorway, country, N-roads, rarely in city driving. claimed 51 mpg.

05 Renault Modus 1.4 6.8 L/100KM (41.5 mpg) same driving as above, claimed 43 mpg

01 Saab 9-3 (205 bhp auto) 9.0 L/100km (31.5 mpg) claimed 30 mpg mostly motorway and N roads, stick to limit on N roads 150 kmh on motorway average (and no I don't want to discuss it)

That's mental, had a 2001 1.4 Scenic and it did 8.1 L/100km for mixed city and country driving. Shows the difference in weight between the two models.

    2005 Nissan Almera 1.5 Petrol
    240,000km (150,000 miles)

At the moment it's 37mpg running to and from work (Bishopstown to Little Island through the Jack Lynch Tunnel) and around the suburbs. I regularly get 45mpg when driving but the traffic at the tunnel is killing it at the moment. I regularly spend 15 minutes stopped and the car doesn't get up to temperature properly (coolant yes but oil no)

    Manufacturer's figures - Not a clue and don't care.

Edit - Yes I have seen as low as 15mpg from a tank. Dont ask how......

That is bad. I get that from an 06 2.5 Kia Sorento. (mostly country roads with some towing)

    1998 Seat Arosa 1.7SDI 173,000 miles
Averaged 4.66l/100km (60.61 mpg) last year overall. Manufacturers claimed combined is 64.2mpg so achieving approx 94% of claimed.
Hoping to improve a lot on it this year, have managed up to 80mpg on a tank (claimed extra urban figure from the manufacturer).
    10% city, 30% national routes, 60% motorway.
Costs about 10c / km to run all in.

    Cow **** green 2001 Volvo S40 Sport DCI (115bhp)

    Manufacturer claims = 52.3 MPG

    Average = 35ish on 90% motorway driving.

Haven't a clue how I'm getting less MPG than my old 2.4 156 and the Volvo is being serviced more regularly as well.

Have you all corrected your mpg to allow for your odometer being up to 10% out same as your speedo? thought not, that'll depress you all

might be 10% on a cable-driven one from the year of the flood, but nowhere near that inaccuracy on anything even semi-modern on sensor-driven speedos.
