is there not some law on owning a bulletproof car? Or can anyone (with money) have one?

Why would there be a law against it?

i thought i remembered something from Limerick last year where the guards impounded a car from some "citizens" and the reason was to do with the armour plating...maybe I remember wrong..a licence to have it or something maybe?

I suppose for some it would be assumed you were going equipped for crime, rather than as a security measure.

... or who in Ireland would even want one?? ...
Lord Mayor of Rathkeale, they seem to have everything else in the line of expensive automobiles down there. What would a couple of weeks on the tarmac in Italy bring in?

They were seized as proceeds of criminal activity rather than because they were armour plated. http://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/gardai-using-armour-plated-cars-seized-from-criminals-479252.html

They got a new paint job and I've seen one of them around Cork fairly regularly.

Meh, its not like its equiped with gun turrets! I would have thought that if you said that you had a fear of gun crime then its not unreasonable to be allowed to protect yourself!

Yeah maybe actually it might be an issue with licensing or classification of the car or something like that. Is an armoured car technically classified as a tank maybe? :p

I was going to say Michael D used to practice being presidential in it before he was elected but he was elected in 2011.

Looks like it is being sold directly from the crowd that armour cars.

Tell me what prefix should be used when selling a car ?

I think a €400k private sale to any mobile number is optimistic and honestly looks a little dodgy either way!

If they are a proper garage/company then they should not be using mobile phones to conduct business.

All that fuss for a bullet proof car, thank god it is not the batmobile they are selling.
Yeah it is 400k though, 100k vrt alone most likely...

xD at the ad description. A regular 9mm would do the job so.

Strange if it's not illegal to own. Like owning bullet-proof vests, anything that makes it harder for the Gardaí to kill you is usually a no-no.

If its a private sale - they will have a mobile phone, just like pretty much anybody else in Ireland.
If its a sale via a garage for a private sale, ditto.

The Tesco number comment was funny I thought. :)

AFAIK vests are not illegal. And I doubt that being killed by the Gardaí is the main worry of the average gangland player.

I suppose the immortality applies to both terrorist and Hilux

Well, would buy it if the number is a potentially non-registered Tesco number and belonged to a bloke called "Anto" who is willing to meet you in the Dunnes car park after hours?
I suppose he will ask to bring the money in cash too...
Needless to say I would prefer to deal with real people in a real garage where I have some kind of comeback and traceability.
It's not like this is an 04 Corolla.

Im going to go out on a limb here and say that this may have been bought or supplied by BMW Ireland during the Obama Visit. There were various vehicle supplied during this and the queens trip to Ireland. Id imagine they were tough to sell all of them on.

It is left hand drive, though. My guess is that the car is on the continent, and doesn't even belong to the people selling it. Kind of like they'll buy it for you when you pay.

On the subject, here's one i'd prefer: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C451025

Sure if you shoot the glass enough times in the same place it'll give way too - all armouring does is buy you time. Although I would imagine there's a solid rubber support inside the tyre too - again, though, I'm sure it could be shot away.
