    + 1.
I saw a Samsung 40" 3D LED in Soundstore Waterford for €589. But this looks a great deal for €670 all in.
I hate Monday morning bargain emails :)

Very good price for that TV. Not a fan of the active 3D.though I think passive is the way to go.

This is indeed a bargain...got the 46 Inch with 200HZ for 700 few weeks ago.

Anyone know if it's saorview compatible? Last five letters are different to what's available here.
It's not on this list either! http://www.saorview.ie/product/samsung/

What's the difference between active and passive ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,319 ✭✭✭Absoluvely

Active means the screen alternates between showing a left image and a right image sequentially and your active 3D glasses block out the corresponding image to corresponding eye at the exact right time by turning from clear to black (100ish times per second normally).

Passive means the screen shows a polarised left image and an oppositely-polarised right image at the same time and your passive 3D glasses have oppositely-polarised lenses so that each eye only sees its designated image.

Active 3D is s'posed to be better quality but the glasses are more expensive and need to be charged and the image will seem darker than in passive 3D because your glasses are black half the time so your eyes don't receive as much light.

So they're just different mechanisms for providing stereoscopic viewing.

There are lots of interesting ins and outs with both methods. For instance, if your active 3D glasses are set to go black at 120Hz and your light bulbs in the room flash at 120Hz because your electricity supply is 120Hz, then you'll start noticing some weird disco-ish flashing and you should change the frequency settings of the TV to something else.

I have a 2013 Samsung E series Plasma. Different sreen tech so I won't comment of that (To avoid the whole LED/LCD/Plasma debate) I'm assuming the "Smart" and other functionality is going to be pretty similar.

Not a fan of "smart" TVs. I have a small PC that is my media hub but I found some of these pretty good on the Samsung. Youtube is pretty fast and very clear. You can use an android tablet/phone (Samsung or not) to browse Youtube and then play on the TV. Netflix is handy to have embedded on the TV but it does have limitations. There is no ability to browse by favourites/new/genre etc. You can just search for title and movies similar to titles. Still, plays perfect.

Has built in Digital Terrestrial and sat. The Samsung onscreen TV Guide is nice and simple. However tou can't just go from RTE to BBC. You have to switch arial and then choose station. It's only a minor thing though. The reception was great and you can organise your favourite stations as you chose.

If it functions anything like my TV (Which I paid a LOT more for) then I recommend this heartily. Maybe check out reviews on the screen quality but functionality-wise it's probably a great TV

Edit: Oh, and make sure you stick a USB-powered Hard Drive (Like a WD Passport drive) to it. Then it functions like a recorder/pause live TV etc. Dead handy. Bit unusual finding your recorded stuff but the quality is perfect. Even in HD recordings. (If you do set the TV to record something, once it's in standby/off but still plugged it it doesn't actually turn on the screen to record which is a handy energy saver)

I bought this TV from Pixmania. When it arrived it had a choice of Germany/Austria/Switzerland and Saorview channels were there but in a messy order. I used the hidden installer menu to change the region to EU-UK and from that Ireland. Then Saorview appeared perfectly. Fancy teletext also works.
Plus HD channels like RTE1 and 2 also come out perfect.

Anyone reckon that you could get a better quality, non-3D TV for a similar price? I'm in the market for a new TV and this seems like a great deal. Just not sure if the addition of the 3D is at the expensive of quality elsewhere. If I paid €650 elsewhere for a 2D TV, would the panel, features etc be better?

Yes bought from them loads of times, no hassle at all, other than sometimes they are very slow to ship.

Yes, I have used them once. My item was delayed shipping and I think this happens a lot.

If there is anything wrong with the product it is a lot of hassle to get sorted out. Normally on an ibood deal, someone posts about the nightmare customer services.

I wouldn't buy any TV without a 5 year warranty.

I have this TV and i'll just say that its a great set.
HD and SD are very good. I used the 3D once.
I use the DLNA a lot. I have my laptop in the other room, go to Source, and the TV picks up my laptop and i can browse my folders and stream easily from the laptop. So handy.
Sound could be better but what can you expect from a skinny TV like this. And the sound isnt terrible, just that it could be better. I use it as is without a soundbar and its fine.

Is there anything useful to be found in there?

According to his video, it voids ur warranty by going into that menu. Wanna know if its worth it before I do.

What digital tuners does it use? Getting conflicting information online. Some say it has Freeview HD, other say Freesat HD, then other say both.

If I understand you correctly, you're asking if it comes with a satellite tuner? If so, yes it does.

I had my TV hooked directly up to my satellite dish cable, and i could tune in all the satellite channels. Encrypted and non-encrypted.
Obviously I couldnt view the encrypted ones though! ;)

Lads, according to Richersounds guys this TV is not Saorview approved. It is an eastern european model and differs from the UK one in that it had a DVB-T tuner and not a DVB-T2 tuner.

Is this an issue if you have sky or upc & don't currently use saorview ??

    Guys,

declared interest here - I work with Richer Sounds

I rarely post outside our own forum http://www.boards.ie/ttforum/1105 but just to clear up a small issue above - we have said that the current iBood offer is a 'European' model - not an Eastern European model.

This particular model will def not be Saorview approved, its not the same model you will be able to purchase in your local store in Ireland or the UK and it doesn't have Freeview HD, Freesat HD or Saorview approval.

Not saying it's a bad TV, or a bad price - but its not a TV thats suitable for off-air broadcasts in Ireland / UK.

Thanks as ever and drop in to our forum if we can ever assist,

    Best regards,

John Mc & the RS Crew

    Ah! Shame.

Wouldn't necessarily need terrestrial TV source at present as I primarily use Sky. However I may need it down the line if, for whatever reason, we choose to get rid of Sky.

If Richer Sounds were to do a price match I'd say there'd be a good few takers.

    Just saying :)

Unfortunately its not possible - the UE46F6500 we stock is a more expensive model at trade and retail :(

    Worth a try tho' :D

I rarely post but I have to chime in on this. I have this TV - I bought it from Pixmania and I believe it's the European model, which doesn't really make a difference, but it really is a super TV. I never use the 3d but the DLNA is super; it plays everything thrown at it, mkv's, the works. I don't really use the other features except maybe the youtube app, which you can control with your phone. It looks way more expensive than it is. Finally, the bezel on this is tiny, which makes the TV look smaller than it actually is. It's a lot of money but if you're in the market, go for it.

No, but should you ever get rid of sky then it might be a bit of an issue. No biggie though as you could always buy a saorview approved STB and connect via HDMI. I'm in the same boat in that I have a sky HD subscription currently.

IMO it is a good TV for the price, however the reason I am put off is more due to the reputation of Ibood on boards.ie judging by historical posts, and the uncertainty over the warranty, not the lack of DVB-T2.

Thanks to RS John for correcting my previous post BTW.
