The iPad Air is the new name for the what would otherwise be the iPad 5.
The iPad 2 was the last IPad to have a non-retina display, Apple were still selling it along side the newer models, not sure if they still are.
The iPad 3 and 4 were simply referred to as iPad and had the retina display. Now that they have the iPad mini they can probably drop the iPad 2.

Actually just checked, you can still get an iPad 2 for €390.

That's €100 cheaper than the Air which is considerably more powerful, and of course, has that retina display.
