Hi I have been asked by a customer to turn them a set of 4 cereal bowls. I have them turned and sanded and I now dont know what finish to apply to them. I think it it has to be water repellant and foodsafe. Would wax do the trick? I have briwax original but I dont know if it is sutiable for this application as it dosent to my knowledge be food safe. Any help would be greatly appricated.
    Thanks

Both Chestnut Products and Mylands produce and sell a dedicated food safe finish through their retailers here in Ireland. They also do tung oil. I have also come across people using Liquid Parafin for a foodsafe finish, but some of us will remember what is was used for in years gone by !!, still in use, and available for about 15 euro per gallon at any farm outlet/co-op. I do not know how foodsafe, liquid parafin is, but it has been and still is used by alot of woodturners for inside fruit bowls etc.

    I hope this helps

    Stan

What you need to use is 'liquid paraffin' (not paraffin for lamps etc). It is odourless and tasteless and non toxic. It is mainly used to treat both human and animals with digestive upsets. It is about ~€20 for 5L. I use it for sealing chopping boards etc

I always used cooking oil, or olive oil.

Cooking oil and olive oil can go rancid. Liquid paraffin like already mentioned works perfectly. The Chestnut food safe oil is a liquid paraffin but not as viscous as ordinary liquid paraffin.
