Broadband speed dropped overnight

I'm on an 8Mb connection here with O2 business and it has been pretty rock solid for the last couple of years and would give me ~750kb/sec down and ~100kb/sec up all the time. I just checked speedtest.net and found this old result:

This morning it was pretty rubbish, i've left it a few hours and nothing has improved. I started using a new Draytek modem just before christmas and this is its current adsl status:

    and a speed test:

I thought it unusual that the download speed suggests 1.3Mb but i can't recall what it said when it was working normal so i plugged my old Netgear modem back in as i know that used to show the connection speed as 8000kbps and sure enough its less now, although higher than the Draytek

And sure enough a speed test confirms that its actually faster

What is going on here? What causes the connection speed to change? Is it related to the line quality? Why would the netgear have a better connection than the draytek? I would think if anything the draytek should be the better one. Is there anything under the drayteks status page which might provide some clues?

    Thanks

O2 business DSL is provided through eircom retail right? Get onto them and have the line tested. A sudden degrade to that extent is probably damage to/moisture on the line.

Yeah its through eircom, well, i get an eircom page if i try access a pirate bay site anyway!

I didn't realise i could get onto them if someone else was providing it, thanks.

you need to go through O2. Eircom will not entertain you.
