Hotel, catered chalet or otherwise where would you rate the best in terms of value for money, quality of food, closeness to lifts etc

For me it would be the time I went to Saalbach, I think it was hotel ongonda or something. Minutes from the chair lift, use of steam room sauna and pool (they have a very liberal attitude to covering up in the saunas in Austria as in none makes females mingling freely with everything on view!!- something to watch out for if not used to it!!) a breakfast menu that was a lot more than just 'continental' as in numerous cooked items, evening meal which comprised of 5 courses with 3 to 4 choices for starter main course and desert, coffee, wine hot chocolate and pastries on return for the day on the pistes served between 4 and 5.30 all for €950 per person which included flights and transfers.

    http://www.oehof.at/

Fantastic food, great central location and a tunnel to the Alpentherme so that you can walk over and back in a bathrobe without having to get dressed and brace for the nighttime temps.

We were repeat visitors, often booking for next year whilst we were there.

Stayed in the Edelweiss a few years back, couldn't fault the place, great location, great food, maybe a little quiet for some though, heading to the Postwirt in Soll on Saturday, believe its the berries, will post on return.

Aww Bajj good choice- the Postwirt is great!! Great atmosphere, great food, great live music, I love it. I'll prob see you there at some stage- the big round stone table just inside the door is a favourite haunt- enjoy!! ;-)

Re: best accommodation: I would say Lyngen in Norway. It's just a spectacular place, I loved it!! Was also made more enjoyable by the fact it was a business trip- I probably wouldn't have found it so enjoyable if I was paying..! Norway is bloody expensive, but a magical place ;-)

Haha sorry Road-Hog I was responding to Bajj, he'd said he's staying in the Postwirt Hotel in Soll, Austria. Great hotel, very old traditional Austrian style but with all mod cons ;)
