    Hi,
I know everyone says you don't need a sound card these days but I think I do as my mono has no optical in and my headset uses optical and also usb but it is recognising it as stereo headset by USB. Not sure is that a USB limitation or not. Any help would be great and also my headset is a Tritton AX PRO!

might need to install drivers for it to be picked up correctly

dont believe that headset sends optical, only receives - so just an optical in is needed on your mobo

I would suggest a proper DAC but it'd be useless with that headset.

Audio streams arent high bandwidth so USB or Optical will both perform the same. There's no problem with it displaying as a Stero headset, thats what it is ^^.

If you want 5.1 get the software package off their site and away you go.
