I got a leaflet in the door from this crowd - http://boostmybroadband.ie/

Basically they charge you €495 to stick an antenna on your roof claim you'll get faster speeds.

Anyone else heard of this before? I can't imagine getting any improvement with my 3 mobile broadband speeds with an antenna.

If your broadband is bad, complain to 3, and they may give u a booster..... I have an external antenna on my house from 3 to boost the signal

It's legal as 3 have a licence, those guys don't, there tampering with the network signal if there using any kind of a repeater. One person might gain but 20 could suffer.

If they are not using a repeater and only a "passive" antenna on the roof then I don't think it's illegal. Only devices that broadcast back (i.e. amplify the signal) are illegal.

I have a small dumb panel antenna on a roof and it helps keep a signal stable. I'm not sure it boots the speed too much but I seem to have a better connection using it rather than the supplied 3 home repeater simply because the panel antenna is cabled to a high point on the roof looking over surrounding buildings.

Just looked at the "How it works" and it looks similar to what I did and so should be ok. http://boostmybroadband.ie/how-it-works

mmh just wondering now is that strictly true as you are altering the gain back to the mast but I assume because it's passive they cant complain...

anyone know of a decent antenna for mobile use? I have the Vodafone 4G modem, and use it in the office (Faster connection then the 2mb in the office...). Signal is better at the window than at my desk, but no power at the window... Would like to get something that would make the connection that bit better... have seen a few on Amazon, but any recommendations?

I'd assume they just plonk the SIM card or dongle into this yoke and then create a WiFi network. No lawbreaking in that. The price is bonkers though.

Price is a total rip off and if you change provider chances are the antenna will need moving so they'll want paying again.

Given it costs €200 euro's to get a satellite installed by a sky installer on the side of your house and they are subsidised by sky

Hard to see how these guys are making a fortune at €495

I would imagine if you had a different carrier and there mast was in a different location it would make sense to change the direction the antenna was pointing in
