Dehumidifier in Handball/Racquet Ball Alley

Hi guys!

My local Handball/Racquet Ball alley flooded 4 years ago, Since then playing a hard game causes the alley walls to get wet, Which causes the ball to skid on the walls and therefore games to be abandoned, This is now happening even quicker in the last year.

We have had builders etc... in to have a look but nobody can put there finger on the problem, Some have said its a ventilation problem, But we have 20 open vents at the top of the alley walls, Others have said its a damp moisture problem from the flood, They have recommended that we try a dehumidifier in the alley.

If we tried a dehumidifier would this cause the wooden floor to warp if moisture were still present in the floor?

Anybody else out there with a similar problem in there alley?

If it's a problem that doesn't occur when it's warm out then it's probably caused by the walls being cold, but the air arming up inside the alley. (big problem in most alleys where there are only external walls)



Not sure of the effect of a dehumidifier on the floor, but perhaps if you just use it during the game it might work and not warp the floor. Another thing I've heard of is warming/insulating the walls - but that's a costly project!

We've put a dehumidifier in the alley and it's taking about 3 pints of water out of the alley over night, The wooden floor seems to be holding up ok for the time being.

We've enquired about the warming/insulating of the walls and you were right...a job the size of a handball alley is expensive! It's going to go somewhere near €10,000.

Let's hope the situation improves!

I'd be interested to hear if the walls aren't getting wet now. Especially add it's still cold out.
