Should you tell a dealer about problems you are having with your own car when he's looking at it for a trade-in?

Yes. He can come after you later if you sold something knowing that it had a problem.

Of course, whats wrong with it?

    Especially if it's something serious!

Misfiring, at low revs, Engine Management light coming on, had a similar problem last year, had to get plugs and coils done. I had planned on trading up in the coming months anyways and this problem started back again recently. He offered me decent money yesterday as a trade-in but that was only a visual inspection.

Of course not, they are the professionals, not you. It's up to them to identify any issues, you aren't qualified to do this ;)

Well he'll cop that immeadiately in fairness so you won't get away with it.

Although if you tell him he'd be able to fix it very cheaply so I can't see it being much of a problem!

Its an intermittement problem. Doesn't happen every time. Personally id be inclined to tell him, but was just checking to see if I was being naive. If I go ahead with getting the car he was selling I'll let him know.

A bit of goodwill wouldn't be any harm if the car you buy goes wrong.
Don't go into massive detail but mention the light comes on occasionally.

Do you think your car would be put on the forecourt? Do they have cars of similar value for sale?
