When I got my Garda ID I brought my license and birth cert with me, but I think either of them will work. According to the link, you could just bring your birth certificate and they'd accept that.

Ask them to sent you a certificate of identity. With your photo attached to the sheet it can be witnessed by an approved profession who knows you

Age card? The website seems to suggest that you only need a Birth Cert to get one, and then you can probably use that as a photo ID when applying for the passport.

    Good luck.

According to the Citizens' Information website, they will accept student id, social club id or work id.

I don't know if they would accept a Garda Age Card, but you could ask.

You can surely get some form of photo id.

According to garda today , I can get No photo Id unless I already have photo Id ,big catch 22,,but a post I got sent me a link for age card so I applied here,s hoping
Anything else anyone can come up with I would be very grateful for the help,
This is a serious ridiculous situation for an Irish citizen and none of the powers of the country seem to know what the regulation s are, garda when I applied two wks ago signed all and said there would be no problem,
Also I'm sure my last passport has to be recorded up there with the extra photos that you have to send them with
    Thanks again

I don't recall ever being asked for photo ID when applying for a passport. They have you on file in the Passport Office since this is not your first passport and the Garda has verified that the photo you're now submitting is of you so why do they need photo ID - all they have to do is compare the new photo with the one from your last application???? It's not mentioned anywhere that I can see on the Passport website.

There is a dedicated Passport thread over in the Travel forum, I don't see how this is a legal issue.

Did you explain the problem to the garda? If not, they might be able to give you an ML10, it's a form of I.D. Bring some photos and anything you can get your hands on to prove who you are. If you know any gardaí that would make it a lot simpler, or if you know someone who knows a garda and can vouch for you.

Other that that, have you actually tried ringing the passport service? I know it sounds obvious, but sometimes people don't actually think of the first thing first.

Lost passports require photo ID and 2 x proof of address

Supposedly a new regulation brought in for new passport s first time applicants or those who have lost a passport,
Legal or not it is a valid question
You now need 4 photos, photo id , bill, paysplip to get a passport for the first time
How about teens, and people like me who don't have a drivers license etc
I will be ringing the person on letter I received yesterday on Monday a worker in the dept of foreign affairs

Its not new, it was the same when I worked for the passport office nearly 3 years ago. If you have no photo id and cant get one, the only way round this is with a certificate of Identity if you are over the age of 18

Is this document available online anywhere?

The one that we used wasn't available online. Sometimes the ML10 form (from the Gardaí was accepted, not always).

Best advice to the OP is to phone the helpline and they'll advise what THEY want, to avoid it being rejected again

The passport office told me that the ML10 would be accepted.

Maybe it depends on the person who deals with the application?

Very much so, I would have always accepted the ML 10, I know some people who never would. They don't have to

Why not make a foi request for the records the passport office hold on you?
It'll have a copy of your photos.

If not make a data protection request for same, only that'll be EUR6.35.

And that will achieve what exactly? They have the op's photos. They want an original photo id (not photocopy), failing that they went a cert sign by a Guard, bank manager or other authorised person verifying the identity

whats required to get a driving licence? (learner permit?), theory test, think they come up quickly.
What other forms of ID are accepted? some mentioned above, but not sure how a social club ID could be accepted, maybe student ID

I just gave it a quick google, and got this:

Note: If you are unable to provide any general photographic ID, you will have to complete a certificate of identity and have it witnessed. The certificate of identity will be sent to you upon receipt of your passport application. The certificate will include preprinted details, including your application photograph. It must be witnessed by someone from a list of people acceptable to the Passport Service for this purpose, and who also personally knows you.

Photo ID is required if you replacing a stolen/lost passport...

A Certificate of Identity can be completed in lieu of photographic id, passport office will send you out the form if you email them at passportdublin at dfa.ie
