New Job, do I need to send off a P60 to avoid emergency tax?

    Hi all,

I just started a new job this week, I have not worked for the past 5 years as I was in college up to recently. I rang up Revenue and gave them the details of my employer and commencement date.

I have received my tax credit entitlement in the post since then. Do I need to sent off a P60 to my employer, as I do not want to be charged with emergency tax when I am paid next month? If so how do I apply to Revenue for one?

you would only have a P60 if you were employed on 31 Dec last year so this doesn't apply to you. If you have given revenue your own details and the new company's registration number then you are sorted. Revenue will have forwarded your tax credit certificate to your new employer and they will use that. No need to be on emergency tax unless your new employer doesn't use the information given to them. Its worth checking with your new employer that they have received your information from Revenue.

edit : well done on getting the job
