Hi folks, I'm having a P0300 misfires problem with a 2005 B6 Passat 1.6 FSI. So far all spark plugs and coils have been replaced and still the engine runs rough. When the car is started its idles perfectly for a few minutes then the engine management light begins to flash and then the engine begins misfiring and runs very rough. When the engine is turned off and started up again the process starts over again. First running fine and then runs rough. Also worth a note that the mechanic that changed the plugs for me noted that the plugs he removed although only in there 6k klms after full service were now black. I did have 1 or 2 rough starts over the last few weeks but other than that the car was fine until the engine management light came on and it began misfiring and running rough. Any ideas what the problem is? I'm not minted enough to keep throwing money at this problem. Thanks for reading

Sounds like the cam shaft position sensor is faulty.

Thanks for the reply :-) would the camshaft position sensor not have its own code to point me in that direction though? Is it easy to get at? Just spotted one online for €35. Sorry about all the questions only I've already wasted money on parts and it did nothing to sort the problem.

Sometimes a problem with the MAF can throw up a misfire code

It's normally handy enough to get at. Just make sure you get the right one.

What mileage is on the car. If it was one of mine I would be checking the timing at this stage.

110,000 Kilometres and has been serviced every 10k

with no other fault codes or obvious issues I would check the timing and check for any compression issues

Mechanic is still working on the car, has tried all the obvious problems like plugs, coils, connections and so far the car is still misfiring but only when idling when driving its smooth as it should be. So far he thinks it could be the injectors or ECU.
Hopefully not the ECU...Part alone is €1,000

    Has the timing been checked?

I have mentioned this twice on this thread but no response so would assume not.

And we both know without even seeing the car that it probably needs a timing chain :pac:

Wouldn't beyond the realms of possibility

This I will inquire about tomorrow as I'm not 100% sure if he has checked the timing chain. This would also be a hefty expense job would it not? :o

Yes quite expensive. To check the timing you need the specific timing tools for this engine.

Turned out to be a faulty injector, car is running perfect again after the defective one was replaced :-)
