Who has their own skis boots snowboard etc?

I've only ever purchased ski boots and they are now past their sell by date as in I got eleven trips out of them. Back to hiring this year. Thought about skis but too much hassle transporting etc

i only have boots myself, have them about 6 years so I've got abut 15-16 trips out of them. There was a time, before children, that i hot away at least three times a year.

i find it easier to hire skis than transport them plus if i had my own skis id be a lot more cautious about straying off piste for fear of damaging them. I have handed back skis in fair bad order.

the boots, i would say, are probably the best investment I've made.

    Own all my own gear.

Got boots first, year later got ski's/poles. Only got a helmet last year though.

A good pair of boots are a super investment.

I have all my own gear, but I don't mind renting if I'm somewhere else for a few days. They only thing I'm fully committed to is my boots- I really miss them when I've to ski in anything else!! I'm also pretty fond of my own helmet, but by God I find ski equipment bloody awkward to travel with... It's also quite cool getting to try out different skis from rental shops- you never know what you're going to end up on! Ski lotto ;-)

Got my own boots and helmet, theres no way you would get me into rental ones. I rent skis though, always try some different ones through the week. Maybe I should splash out but the travel seems like hassle.

I don't understand how people find the travel hassle.. Have had my own equipment for 8 years now.. and have no issues transporting to resort.

After my season in whistler i even dragged my snowboard bag and luggage around Canada and the states for 3 months of the summer. Was funny walking through times square after arriving in New York with a board bag under my arm! :D

Neilthefunkeone I must confess in my case it's sheer laziness- I try to only ever travel with handluggage, I hate hanging around airports waiting for baggage! The OH on the other hand will happily fly with a bike, tent, skis or whatever, no problem. Just different mindsets I guess- can lead to some interesting airport discussions though! ;-)
