So Im currently with UPC for a bundle of Broadband, landline and TV but they upped the cpst recently to 78euros from 74euros so Im thinking of switching but the SKY website is a tad confusing with so many options and bundles I cant seem to see a similat "TV, Broadband and Phone" bundle there, its mostly TV and Internet or Internet only. Can anyone advise on what bundle would be best value for money??

Sky's broadband includes line rental and one of two phone tariff options.

Yes having been with both SKY is far better than UPC.

Not a consumer issue, but UPC broadband is far far far better than SKY, TV is better with sky.

Have you thought about keeping UPC for phone and broadband and using free tv via Saorview and satellite?

What channels are you watching? Are you paying for premium channels?

+1. Get a decent phone and broadband deal ( several have free local and national calls plus generous allowances to mobiles) and use saorview and freesat for tv. Paying for TV channels is madness in this day and age.

I would consider paying for Sky Sports and BT Sports one of the best value outlays I have every month.

Main channels I watch are RTE1/2. BBC1-3, ITV, TV3, UK Gold, Sky News, Sky One, Challenge TV, C4, Discovery, More Four and a few others like that, Im not into the other channels that go after 220 on my current UPC digital box. Would the above channels be available on Saorview?

That's the problem with the op raising this here. We all value things differently? I wouldn't pay 2 cent for a dedicated sports channel while others consider them great value at any price. Horse for courses!

    Too lazy to search?

Of those channels G.O.L.D, Sky One, Discovery are pay tv on satellite meaning you need a sub.

All irish channels are available via Soarview and all bbc, c4, itv, channel 5 channels are free via satellite. Sky have 3 free channels pick, challenge and sky news.

Some UKTV http://network.uktv.co.uk channels are on freeview you might get access to them depending on where your based.

Is this a consumer issue or one for a TV forum?

It is about saving money for the consumer and showing alternatives to sub based tv packages which are about to increase in price shortly.

I'd swap to sky in a heartbeat if there broadband turns out decent and the speed increases!

The speed cannot with current technology go past 100mbit/sec and even at that, only for people within spitting distance of a VDSL cabinet. They are always going to be playing catchup to cable firms (UPC/Casey/Crossan) in that regard, and always very far behind.

Moving this to Cable & MMDS & IPTV (although there is a Broadband element to consider too)

I think there should be a thread about switching TV provider in consumers.

There are more then 2 options for many people here are a few:-

    1. Bundle TV, Phone, Mobile Phone and Broadband (Eircom)
    2. Bundle TV, Phone and Broadband (UPC, Sky, Eircom, Magnet)
    3. Don't Bundle see if you can do better by mixing and matching between a number of companies
    4. Ditch the TV an rely on-demand services such as (RTÉ Player, Netflix) and Live TV via the internet (AerTV and individual broadcaster websites).
    5. Go free with TV. Saorview offer 7 basic channels (RTÉ 1HD, +1, 2HD, NEWS NOW, JR, TV3, 3e and TG4) with 10 Radio stations. Mix it with FTA Satellite and you get all BBC Channels (BBC 1, 2, 3, 4, NEWS, CBBC, Cbeebies), UTV, ITV2, 3, 4, Channel 4 channels, C5 Channels etc). Full list here.

Sky for the TV is great i find.

I'm on the basic 25 quid a month and i couldn't be without it.

Being able to pause, rewind and record all on the one device is great and it is seriously user friendly.

I called sky about switching (im from firhouse) and they can only give me 2MB broadband. shame really cause I hate the UPC TV experience but could not justify the expense of both

Ours is €72 a month with SKY its expensive but worth it

It includes all the sky channels, kids ones etc, sky HD box, on demand
    Line rental
Unlimited broadband. Can't argue with the broadband at all we find it great as nd there could be 3 devices used at the same time in our house.

What speed does it say it should be on the link below
    https://www.eircom.net/broadband/
You can either search by your current number or address

Just curious as I'm Tallaght the link tells me I should be able to get 70meg. I know the link may be absolute rubbish but I'm ringing SKY this week and want to see what they say they can give me.

Sky don't offer anything over (theoretical) 24mb for the moment and aren't in a huge hurry to do so either.

"A few more months" gets mentioned regularly by people ringing up Sky about fibre to the cabinet.

imo do not switch to sky, after reading all the reviews telling me sky tv was better than upc's etc etc we switched and found both picture and sound were significantly worse with sky than with upc, put up with upcs poor menu system and stay put

You must have had a dodgy dish setup. Your probably the first person I've seen to ever put UPC ahead of sky for picture and sound quality.

Although I will say the hd on the horizon box is getting great reviews.

Engineer said our signal was good with sky, once signal str is above 50% or so it comes through so I was told by him, upc HD box is far superior in both SD and HD imo, its not even close, having said that our reception/resolution is not as sharp on our return to upc as it was before we left for some reason but im not complaining at the moment as its still a lot better than skys'
