Vodafone Contract?

I had a look at the talk to me section, but it always goes to PM so you never see how it works out in the end. So I figure people here might be able to help me.

Basically I was in the vodafone shop yesterday and they are offering a pretty good bill pay deal with unlimited calls to any network and plenty of free international calls, free phone etc but its a 2 year contract.

Im self employed and getting the most expensive pacakge they have- which at the moment is great value as Im out a fortune buying credit. But in a few a months time if the business goes belly up and I become unemployed.... well 1, unless Im going to be on the phone to social welfare a lot I wont need all the extra minutes and 2) the monthly bill will be a killer. Im just wondering what are vodafone like to deal with if you had to get out of a contract. Are they a little bit forgiving or complete nazis about it.

If you can't see out a contract, you have to pay a cancellation fee, which is generally worth all the remaining months left on your contract.

    Before it gets moved.

They sell their debt to Imtrum Justita, a debt collection agency.

They will hunt you down like a dog.

VF will get a slice of the money & none of the hassle.

Why just not stay on pay as you go until you are happy that the business is working, them contracts with free phones are a rip off anyway.

Can you put the contract in the business name?

If you are self employed but have your own company then get the phone in the company name?
Then if business goes belly up they can join the list of debtors to the company....not you?

Especially 2 year ones, you'd be nearly as well to buy the phone outright, insure it and get a sim only plan. There's no such thing as a "free" phone, the cost is built into the plan and contract. Do the maths and add up 24 months x say 50-60 quid a month versus buying a phone sim free and being on a cheap plan.

Give it 2-3 years and paying for calls and text will be a thing of the past, it'll be all data. Smartphones are the norm now and with stuff like imessage, facetime, viber, skype, whatsapp etc etc contacting people is free. Paying to text? what?

Why not get a sim only package with a 30 day rolling contract? You won't get a new phone, but you'll get all the inclusive data/texts/calls.

Well, the phone (which is one of these latest and greatest super dooper phones that can nearly make your make breakfast :D ) is not the reason I want the bill pay. Im quite happy with my current thing thats years old and doesnt have any bells or whistles.

Its just that Im topping up with 60-80 euro a month and Im always very conscious of how long Im on the phone to people. I thought if I got the bill pay which is 55 a month I'd be saving myself 20-30 every month and its unlimited calls so I can sit talking to whoever I want on any network and never have to worry about how much credit Im burning through. Getting the free shiny phone is just a bit of a bonus.

Maybe I should start a thread in the technology section. I havent a clue when it comes to computers and technology... but are you telling me if I bought a smart phone I could use those programs you mentioned (skype been the only one I recognise :o ) to make free phone calls and texts?

So maybe I'd be better off telling vodafone to keep the bill pay and then buy the smart phone and then use skype and all those other programs?

Yeh I thought about that already but Im going to be looking for a loan very shortly and Id rather keep all the outgoings on that account to a minimum just give them less reason to refuse me. I know its only 55 a month and they probably wouldnt even factor into it.... but ya never know.

Sure can, viber gives you free calls and texts to other viber users, whatsapp is for free texting. If it's an iphone then they come built in with imessage and facetime, free messages and video calls to other iphone users over 3g/wifi. They're all free apps too.

What does your plan give you? 60-80 a month on credit is crazy, all the networks do free calls or text plans for 20 quid a month now

As it stands with Vodafone at the moment, you can go down to a cheaper plan after 12 months.

You could try the 48network (they are on the O2 network) - all calls/texts & 5Gb data for €20pm. No bull**** contracts to sign up with. I think you will need to say your 18 when signing up though hahaha

OK heres a question for you. If Im calling up various businesses/suppliers/customers etc and they are all on various networks and some also on landlines and I also need to be able to give them a number they can call me back on from their own mobile/landline what would you recommend for me? Whats the best value for money?

Just your regular mobile number, you wont ever pay to recieve a call from them so it wouldn't make a difference to your credit or bill. Do check with your network what you actually get for your topup though you could be on an old plan that doesn't come with free calls, every network does some sort of unlimited plan now with either free calls or texts.

Madness to tie yourself to a 2 year contract for a phone.
