    Hi Folks,

I am looking for a hard drive that I can connect to my laptop and drag and drop movies onto it, then connect the hard drive directly to the TV using scart, red-yellow-white (whatever its proper name is) or hdmi connection .

I've searched around and from what I can see they are called media drives but when I search for media drive reviews I get details about network connections and streaming from the net etc... But no clear indication that they will also do what I want so:

What is the device called that I am looking for

    And

Does anyone know of any that they would recommend around the <= 100€ price range

    Many thanks for any help!

If your looking to connect a hard drive of movie files, youll need a tv or ps3/xbox with built in media player functions and usb slots, otherwise youll need something like http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=400

If your anyway tech savy, you could get a cheap raspberry pi, put xbmc on it, hook it up to telly via hdmi, and play your files straight off your connected hard drive.

Thanks very much for your reply! I don't want to have to use anything extra, just the box itself that will be connected to the TV and can be navigated with using its own remote for example. I know such a product exists cause I used to have one but I don't remember what it was called

Cyclone Primus V2 2TB Media Player
STOREX D-522 - 2 TB Digital multimedia hard disk
No idea if either of these are any good.

Or a separate WD WD TV PLAY and a separate hard drive.

    All will be over €100.

Plenty of alternative methods above in Stuxnet's post above.

Looks like it's discontinued. Have a search for 'WD TV Live', you can attach external storage and it supports a host of filetypes.
