Firstly, boards has really changed since I was on last (different user name)

    So anyway,
My hair is in really bad condition. Very thin, constantly falling out and the amount that I gather when im in the shower is scary. I had a lovely thick fringe but had to let it grow out because my hair got soo thin.
Im just wondering if it would be a good idea to cut it short to give it a chance to get healthy again (along with my diet change and a good dose of vitamins)

If it were in its normal condution Id be at the hairdresser getting the roots done etc but ive decided not to put it through all those chemicals and heat while it is so weak.

Any suggestions? Im also goin to use shampoo alternatives tonsee id that'll help.
    Desperate at this stage!

my sister in law had the same problem she has a pretty poor diet and suffers from M.S
She has been taking perfectil now for ages and her hair is a lot thicker and stronger
it will take a while for any supplements to work

I heard that castor oil is really helpful.

Ive been trawling the net for solutions. Ive decided to stop using shampoo. I saw a blog about using backing soda (diluted) as shampoo replacement and apple cider vinegar, also diluted, as conditioner.

Might also try coconut oil to leave in over night.

I have started using Coconut oil twice a week, leaving it in overnight thanks to recommendations on here. Already noticing an improvement. Perfectii gets mixed reviews on here but I find it great. It's expensive at the moment though, €15 a month. I got it last week for less than €4 and 3 for 2 on Boots online but that offer is over now. Check online, there could be other deals on. I think Amazon do it sometimes. Or get Biotin or Viviscal (quite expensive though but heard great things about it). Drink plenty of water, eat lots of protein and good fats. Always condition, shampoo less if possible and my hairdresser also recommended brushing less if possible and never when hair is wet. Get a good trim too and put away your heat appliances if you can. These are all the tips I got. It's early days for me, it will take a while so hang in there and hopefully you'll see some results.

Have you had a thorough health check? A relative of mine started losing her hair gradually, it became very thin and brittle to the point where she thought she might have alopecia. Off to the doctor she went turns out she had an underactive thyroid gland which contributed to her hair loss and condition.

I have had a check up recently and all is ok in the thyroid department. The doctor knows that I have been suffering with thinning hair and I do have other issues which im dealing with. Without going into too much detail I wanted to hear all ypur hints and tips :)

I also have thinning hair and went for a blood test. My prolactin is really high and that's causing my hair to fall out. :( Vitamins aren't going to do much good if you have an underlying health problems. I'm hoping I'll be given something soon to sort this out. Hair is super healthy, just don't have much of it. :(

A friend who has this, was advised to take hydrochloric acid for digestion, she has many food allergies also. So far there is no huge improvement, but deterioration has stopped.
