Freedom of Information - City Council

Bit of a strange one. I am wondering if information on a city councils expenditure on certain things like upkeep and maintenance of say parking ticket machines is freely available to the public and if so where do I get it?

Certain headline information is published, i.e. total parking costs. Take a look at page 40-41 here: http://www.environ.ie/en/LocalGovernment/LocalGovernmentAdministration/LocalGovernmentFinance/PublicationsDocuments/FileDownLoad,32678,en.pdf Checking hte website of the relevant council might get more information. Note that you need to look at the current budget (sometimes referred to as the revenue budget, even though it includes expenditures), not the capital budget.

Assuming you aren't looking for too much information, contacting the relevant council department directly may be quicker and cheaper.

Parking and the upkeep of machines on the roadside might be environmental information, and you can use the access to information on the environment regulations to get info for free,
It's like a foi only you quote the AIE regulations, give yer name and address and Robert is your parents brother!

Of course the corpo will probably stall giving the info out and you'll have to request a review and even then they might not give it out as there is no sanction for them doing this kind of unlawful behaviour
