Which Heating to Install?

I'm buying a 1,500 sq foot, 70s bungalow in a rural area. At the moment the only heating it has is an open fire with backboiler supplying two radiators and some storage heaters.

I'm planning to have solar hot water and , of course, I need to put in a proper heating system. But which type?

Oil/Calor Gas - cheapest to put in but expensive to run?
Stove with boiler - economical but you have to devote your life to stoking it?
Wood pellet - expensive 'hardware', cheap to run, pellet supply/quality concerns?
Heat pump (air/air) - I'm going to double-glaze, insulate the attic and walls but would it cost too much to insulate to the standard needed for these systems?
Heat pump (geothermal) - Too expensive too put in the huge radiators or underfloor piping?
Solar electric (combined with stove) - Too little light in winter? Too much up front cost to overcome this?
Wind electric - House is on a windy site but installation/maintenance is very expensive?

Which of these would you go for?

Grant Vortex oil boiler & stove + radiators .

Underfoot heating is a different concept, others here could give better more up to date advice on it.

    Oil/Calor Gas - yes / no
Stove with boiler - yes but only as a secondary source
Wood pellet - no but you can always become a wood pellet engineer after all the hardship you'll get from repairing it!
Heat pump (air/air) - a possibility but you would need to research a lot more into it
Heat pump (geothermal) - not really economically viable as a retrofit
Solar electric - only of it was being gifted to you & even then be doubtful & hopefully you won't freeze in the winter
Wind electric - I can picture it now, the whole family standing outside on a calm freezing night, everybody blowing & flapping their arms trying to get just even one turn....

I would forget about solar and use this money instead to have the house assessed properly (not a BER) for its main heat loss mechanism(s) and then address the issues arising (not just insulation but also air tightness). After this is done the simplest condensing oil boiler + rads will be best.
