My understanding is if they increase the price you can cancel the contract (if you are in a contract), which might suit. :)

You have 30 days to cancel if you are not prepared to pay the increase.

lads is there anywhere in boards like a thread that has done comparisons for bb in ireland?i have phone and bb with upc and the price has gone up and id like to know if its cheaper anywhere else?
its 42 a month now with the increase.
surely theres a bb provider somewhere thats cheaper.even without the phone.

According to todays Irish Independent UPC are to increase prices by up to 14%. This will potentially raise the price of their 200MB and anytime call package for example from €57.00 to €65.00pm. With hikes like this one could see a lot of BB customers possibly moving over to fibre.

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/upc-customers-to-be-hit-with-14pc-price-hike-29945760.html
From reading elsewhere, I think these increases are only being applied to packages including TV, not BB or BB+phone only.

€42 is actually pretty good for phone + BB.

The only one where you might save money is with Vodafone BB only for €35:

    http://www.vodafone.ie/home-phone-broadband/simply-broadband-max/

But it isn't available everywhere and the speed you actually get depends on your distance form the cab.

You can also get BB + phone from UPC for €37:

    http://www.upc.ie/bundles/broadband-phone/fibre-50/

Also don't forget to call up UPC sales and tell them you are moving, they will often give discounts.

Yes, this seems to be more to do with Sky and other TV content providers pushing prices up.

Incorrect; I have BB & phone and I'm still getting hit albeit only 7% (that is taking into account the MyUPC scam discount).

What service are you currently on and what are you paying? and what is the increase?

Cancelling on phone as we speak but after 15 mins on phone and multiple switches I was cut off.

With any utility, I cancel by registered letter (and keep tracking details & proof of delivery details + a copy)

I've had too many 'misunderstandings' with various utility companies where they 'forgot' to cancel my account and then claimed I gave no notice.

I am on 50 / 150 no TV going up to 44 quid (albeit with the promise of a speed boost I didn't ask for nor need), I am merely pointing out that it is not just TV customers getting hit.

Well you think wrong.i only have bb and phone. Its going up 3.50 euros if your reg d with my upc.6.50 if your not.upc told me that on the phone earlier.

    ces up.

how can they charge new customers 37 and me a long time customer 42 euros.its mad, shouldn't they be trying to hold onto existing customers.

50 / 150 ? That makes no sense, no such product exists.

I'm assuming you will be getting 120mb/s for €44

You can always downgrade to 50mb/s for €37 if you don't need the extra speed. That would be as good as any other provider.

For everyone getting price increases, it is important to look at the packages available and think about what you actually need. There are often cheaper and better value for money packages available.

Also don't forget to wring up and complain and threaten to move to Eircom/Vodafone, you will often get discounts.

Will they e-mail each individual customer advising them of the increase?

That deal is also available to existing customers (just not the reduced price of €25 for the first 6 months).

As I said, you should always check the site for what is available and if you see a better deal, then call them and switch.

Ok I was cut off the 1st time and ofc it was coincidence, by the time I got thru the 2nd time I had calmed down somewhat and the female upc rep said that UPC don't want to appear to be hard headed referring the price increases and she reduced 5 of my BB and 5 of my TV so in fact I will be saving 50c a month, ofc this also included a 12 month extension ion of my contract :P
ps : I always paid by paper bill and not DD and by law that disappears by 1st Fb so another 3.75 saving...

I just downgraded, dumped all premiums, sports/movies etc, 1 x phone line and 2 x Multiroom. Took the Horizon + 120 BB and Anytime World and kept the Digital HD Box for 1 Multi saving about €80 a month, now facing a near €15 increase cutting saving to €65. BB Speed went up from 30mb to about 85 on xp machine and 100 on Vista. Had to have UPC deconsolidate BB + TV as wireless connection dropped dramatically ( Used to have Cisco Box, Digital HD Box and Netgear Router Wireless was excellent on 4 x mobile phones, laptop 2 x pc 2 x xbox, 1 x wii Even tried connecting them all at the one time on occassion and they all worked fine ). Now have Horizon Box TV only + Cisco modem for BB and phone. Wireless still extremely poor. Could go back to old set up but BB would fall back to 30mb. Don't think they have this combo of TV/Broadband/Phone/ Wireless cracked.
Anyone got a full breakdown of the increases so I can see if I can drop anything else. Getting fed up with what looks like being a 15% per year increase from UPC

UPC have refused in their own forum to give a full breakdown of the increases in spite of several requests from customers. Hardly a model of transparency!

I'm on the old 30 meg broadband only package and was informed of a €6.50 increase, but that it would actually be €3 due to the online discount. That would have brought me to €39 per month. But I opted for the €37 per month 50 meg+phone package instead. So in real terms I get a speed increase and only a €1 increase. I can live with that!

Part of me thinks that they deliberately did this so I'd go for the phone service and/or replace my old DOCSIS 2.0 modem with one of the new ones. Having all of their users on DOCSIS 3.0 modems should improve the quality of the service.

No mention of any increases to non-TV packages here ...

I'm broadband and phone only, mine has increased €3.50, which is negated by the self serve MyUPC €3.50 discount, so no change for me apart from a increase to 120Mb in March. Although this is not of much benefit as only one laptop in the house has a gigabit ethernet card, the main family one is only capable of 100Mb.

When you get to 100Mb+ the idea is usually for concurrent users not one super heavy one.

    Hi,
Spoke to UPC "billing" earlier in an attempt to get a breakdown of proposed increases. It appears I will face no increases as my Horizon bundle + Digital HD multi room bundles are not going up.

Just to note.. I received no notification by letter or e-mail of increases.. So i called to double check and my bill is going up..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭hitbit

Yet again they lied. Have just received increase notification. They have to go.

Also the "myupc discount" is just a trojan horse for a future price increase. Everybody's basic price has been increased by a minimum of €3.50 - for some nullified by the "discount". But this "discount" can be rolled back at any time.
