As above folks. Is this readily available in Ireland. Need it for Hitachi ex60. Think it's called HN46 or 46HN, not 100‰ sure tbh. Can't get it in the usual places. Have been told the ordinary stuff is ok but have also been told it causes pump trouble with build up of crud etc. Don't want to have to rebuild the pumps as that costs big £££

Why not try Hitachi dealers? McSharry in Roscommon is the Irish dealer.

HM Plant in the UK may be better to deal with for this perhaps?

Tried them all mate in this little isle with no luck. The common answer was "sure won't this do" Lol. I'm back and forth to the UK so might just wait and bring some back.

I know the feeling, HM Plant are the Hitachi agent in the UK so if they don't have it then no-one will.
They are based up in Tyneside.

I have worked in Plant Hire for over 20 years and never had a problem with any Hitachi using normal grade oil, this includes everything from a 5 ton up to 20 ton...
what are you going to do if your machine blows a pipe? park up until you can find some oil that isn't available in the country?
If the main Hitachi dealer isn't stocking it does that give you a hint that it isn't a problem, imagine the amount of machines they service under warranty each year and they have no problem ....

Mobil zinc-free, you'd need to ask someone about it though

    http://www.gannonoils.co.uk/Industrial/Industrial_Hydraulic/Mobil_Hydraulic_Oils/Mobil_Hydraulic_Oil_M_46.html

    Mobil Hydraulic Oil M 46
    Think it's called HN46 or 46HN

46 hydraulic oil-speak for no zinc please ?

As long as you use a iso 46 grade oil its vegetable based so bio degradable and as iits not from the ground has no zinc in it...... simples....;)
Environmentally sensitive applications (e.g. farm tractors and marine dredging) may benefit from using biodegradable hydraulic fluids based upon rapeseed (Canola) vegetable oil when there is the risk of an oil spill from a ruptured oil line. Typically these oils are available as ISO 32, ISO 46, and ISO 68 specification oils

I'm not saying that it will or won't cause problems. Just can't get why it's so hard get anything in this country. Worse it seems to be getting. My preference would be what's recommended. I'm sure McSharry or the likes wouldn't care if I needed pumps rebuilt as it's not them that's out of pocket, Hence "sure this will do"

Hitachi themselves say that it should be used:

Cheers CJ, that has definitely clarified what I already suspected. There's always a reason reason behind a companies recommendations ;) I'll be getting zinc free for sure. Thanks for link.)

Most things here are first day purchases, By this I mean that a person/company/council/Govt dept buys something be it a piece of infrastructure/car/ or Plant. The initial cost is all that is thought of and maybe a small bit of servicing, after a short time the thing is thought of as old and is scrapped or traded in.
Proper servicing and maintenance is very rare here, and the answers you got confirm that.
In the short term using regular hydraulic will work and the machine will still function, long term I suspect the difference between pump rebuilds and the price of the Hitachi Oil may pay for itself many times over.
