Staying friends with Long Distance ex?

    Hey, regular poster going unreg.

So I had been seeing a girl long distance for the last 6 months, meeting for a week or a few days every month or so.

We always got along really well, whilst physically together. Since Christmas I noticed that the frequency of her texts and Skypes dropped hard, I asked her why was this, her response that she was either out with friends or stressed with college.

Eventually it got to the point where she was ignoring me for a day or two at a time, where as before we would text throughout each day. She insisted everything was fine and I told her sort out the communication issues but she continued as before. I got fed up of it and decided it was time to break up. She was fine with this and respected my decision. She said she wants to be friends and not lose contact, while I said it would be a bad idea as I still have feelings for her and just want to move on with my life. Her reaction was worse than when we broke up. Which I find all very odd. I feel as though I'm being strung along.

Not really sure how to play it? Just cut off contact completely or see what happens?

Any advice would be very helpful.

I think she's away in college enjoying being single - but wants you waiting in the wings for when she comes back! She was more upset at you cutting contact than breaking it off with her, probably because she doesn't want a boyfriend, but she does want a "standby".

It's up to you - She doesn't get to call all the shots. If you can't remain friends with her, then just cut contact. What's she going to do?

You're being strung along. Cut the bull of staying "friends" after, you're not hard up for a few mates are ya? Also, when dumping her, tell her exactly why. It's not your problem man it's hers.

    Goodluck.

She wants to keep you on the subs bench! I'd make a clean break if I were you.

    OP here,

I was going to mull over options for a few days and not be too drastic with my approach, but upon reading the responses here just made me realise I'm being made a fool of. Text her last night saying how being friends is just bull****, and that if I was ignored while I was with you, how will being friends work? I then told her I don't need that in my life, I'm cutting contact for good and saving myself time.

Her response was just 'ok' with no follow up which just cements the fact she tried to keep me as a backup/ knew the jig was up.

    Good riddance, onward and upward.......

Fair play OP, its a trap a lot of people can get caught in. You've made the right decision.
