Ballpark cost for dental surgery

    Hi folks

Ive been thinking about getting my teeth and jaw fixed recently. But not sure what the story is with surgical options in Ireland.
My lower jaw requires moving forward a small bit and adjusting to be less asymmetric.

I also want to get the teeth on one side and at the front straightened, they are crowded and very out of line. I don't know if maybe teeth would normally be realigned somewhat as part of the jaw surgery anyway though?

Also my two front teeth are very wide I don't know what the options might be for having them slimmed down at the sides??

Plus, what sort of ballpark would I be looking at for each of these thing?

    Thanks a bunch :-)=

How long is a piece of string!

Start off with a general dentist and then he can refer you to the relevant specialists for a treatment plan

    Ha ha, OK, helimacopter :)

Does that answer apply also to the question of if some teeth alignment normally happens as part of such jaw surgery?

But a further question, is it possible to get any of such treatment on medical card?
I have an idea that the HSE does have orthodontics but think I heard it may be hard to get anything done with them if not a child or in desperate pain... Im neither, but my front teeth alignment has got so bad I cant actually bite anything with them anymore... eating things like sandwiches with slices of tomato in, for e.g., is not doable!

    Thanks

I've leave that to Oral Surgeon or Fitz to answer (i'm not a dentist)

Medical card work is very limited these days and if it was covered you'd likely have a long wait.

Sound like you want braces or orthodontic treatment. This is not covered for adults on the medical card. Treatment is quite affordable and spread on a month by month basis. about 100 to 200 euro a month so less than somebody who smokes a pack a day.

As helimachopter the wise said, go to a general dentist to get a recommendation as discuss your specific needs.

Thanks Fitz. I don't smoke though, its too expensive! ;)

I'd be hoping to get as much done via surgery as possible rather than have long-term braces, though I know that generally surgery can require braces afterwards in the short-term which is OK. Will dentists/orthodontists in Ireland generally offer surgical treatment options as well as braces for cases where either could be done?

I am due to go to the dentist anyway ASAP, just wanted to get as much info as I could beforehand so's I ask the right questions when I get there :)

So thanks for the infos :)

What you are thinking would need both preliminary orthodontics followed by surgery and also post surgery orthodontics. Unless you fall into certain parameters surgery may not always be offered, best is to consult a local dentist/orthodontist
