Read the FAQs but need some clarification. I was hit by a van and my car is damaged. I informed my insurance company and now, two weeks later, I have been told it is up to me to contact the other guy's insurance and claim through that. Is this not the job of my insurance company?

If you have Comp and claim off your own insurance, they will contact the other party and do all the work to recoup their costs, which is to your benefit.

If you want to solely claim directly off the other party, they have no involvement in that. If you have a good broker they may take on this work for you, but not necessarily

Brokers have no involvement in how a claim proceeds, that is down to insurers only. What they can do is keep on top of insurers to see that things are moving along as they should

    Thanks for that.
I have been given three sets of seperate advice by the broker and I cannot contact the company directly. I was variously told 1) fill in the form and send it back 2) talk to the insurer of the other driver and make his insurance pay and 3) Most incredibly, don't send in the form or it will be claimed off you own insurance! I made company aware of the accident but have not yet submitted the form due to all of the confusion.

It's unlikely that insurance company consider I am at fault, as they haven't been given the full claim form. Pretty sure I am not at fault, yer man was on the phone and oulled straight across me without indicating he was suddenly turning left.

I'm presuming my best course of action is to submit the claim form anyhow?
