Hi all im just looking for some help here. The otherhalf,s carisma 1.6 2000 reg needed a few parts so i went and bought a donor 01 carisma 1.6. I have seen the the donor car has disc brakes on the rear with nearly new disc,s and brake pads. Would it be possible to fit these on her car as it has brake drums fitted and they are giving a bit of trouble. Thanks in advance

From the top of my head it would be a difficult DIY job.
Drums and discs connect differently to the axle.

But hey, take them apart and have a look.

Thanks biko I was just wondering if it could be done as they are the same model and any of the other parts that i replaced worked a treat.. as far as im aware the carisma changed in 2002 so i was surprised to find rear disc,s on the donor car

What kind of trouble are the drum brakes giving - other than sticking/leaking cylinders they tend to be fairly reliable .
As biko advised have a careful look at everything - as in these cases it can be a small detail that can make the job difficult or impossible , and you could have it 90% done when you spot it
Check handbrake cables - are they the same or interchangeable ?
IF possible make sure calipers (sliders/pistons) are working freely before you start - disc brakes on the rear often seem to seize up more so than on the front . And especially if car has been parked up for some time .

Might need custom welding job and as mentioned its not really worth the hassle, the engine will never put out considerable amount of power to justify rear discs.

You also may need to change the proportion valve, probably not worth the hassle.

Even if you took the drums and shoes apart, cleaned them with a toothbrush and greased everything up, it would still be less work than changing over.
